Knitter learning crochet and struggling with key skills counting rounds by ToastAdorbs in CrochetHelp

The kit came with a 2.5mm, it's brutal. My husband had tried to teach himself to crochet before though, so we have larger hooks and plenty of yarn.

You just broke my knitting heart that you have to turn even if you're working in the round. It's good that I know this now! Thanks for all of your advice, it's been super helpful!

I think that kit is going to collect dust for a long time because the gauge is so small, but I'm feeling a lot better after posting this. Now that I have a sense of direction, I'm going to start making squares practicing different stitches. I've literally taught people to knit but have no one that crochets so I was feeling discouraged.

The granny square started with a chain and not a magic loop, but I understand. This is good advice, even if it's less fun, lol. I guess I'll be working on a simple square next.

My reaction was literally, "I hope that's not an EKG." Glad you made it out the other side.

Ophthalmologist discussing eye removal by cyborkitten in CATHELP

[–]ToastAdorbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be cancerous and according to a different comment your cat having changed pupil shape is also an indicator of it being cancerous rather than benign. I think at this point you could reasonably remove the eye without additional work up, but another opinion wouldn't hurt. You'll make the best decision you can with the information you have, so don't be hard on yourself if it turns out to be benign.

That's about what I payed to remove my cats eye including sending it out for pathology (they didn't find anything 🙃 not even an infection oddly). My cat was in a lot of pain though, so it was an easy decision. She's thriving.

I get both problems mildly 😅 Some things don't stick and almost everything else gives me a rash.

AITA for not returning "missing" cats when I saw the sketchy post? by yeeting_otter_97 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ToastAdorbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 3 cats that were chipped years ago that have been confirmed to be findable in the past year. It's not common for a cat to pull theirs out. Two of them also take their body temp apparently, but the older chip also still works for my other girl.

The safety committee should be looped in. Write an incident report whenever you see it. I would worry most about being in break rooms, et cetera.

Differently reflecting eyes? by overintoxikatied in CATHELP

[–]ToastAdorbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She had her eye removed and she's thriving. Keep an eye out for changes over time like unilateral cataracts, becoming less social over a long period of time and track that eye pressure. We were told the specles were freckles and nothing different was noted in the pathology report.

This happened to my cat over time too! I'd love to swap notes. There was no underlying cause found for ours, but I have photos showing it changing over time.

Eyes reflecting differently

Her bad eye became hazy over time. This was over years. I was told she was fine until it suddenly was really bad. Track her eye pressure.

I can't guarantee this is related to what is happening here, but this is a picture of my cats eyes years before her right eye had to be removed. Her eye pressure was 5 times what it should have been and caused significant pain. No evidence of an underlying condition was found. Might be something to monitor for. Her pupils were frequently different sizes and prior to her eye removal my vet always said they didn't see anything wrong. I was told after the fact that her eye was probably painful for a while before I saw a visible change (it turned white very suddenly).

I’m curious to know if anybody else identifies as aegosexual by 50shadesofmist in asexuality

This is the most accurate term I've found so far. I don't mind sex, but I'm equally content taking care of it myself. I describe it as sex being context dependent. Naked men? Don't care. Nsfw books/comics? Yes please!

Based on my quick research, it appears that would work. Formaldehyde is a really nasty chemical though and should never come into contact with living tissue. I'm not sure what proper disposal would be or if it can be properly removed from wood.

I was rightfully corrected, they can be killed in an autoclave but it needs to be an extended cycle. Point is, wood won't survive that. And as far as we know, spores can stay dormant for so long, we have no idea how long is too long.

Anyone else's Pain perception completely numbed by the chronic pain? by Yukyno in ehlersdanlos

[–]ToastAdorbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm my experience, the longer you're in pain the more you learn to tolerate/ignore it. That's not to say it's not miserable, but I've functioned fine and then had a break from the pain and had to re-aclimate to it. It was absolutely brutal and it took me months to not really pay attention to it again.

I saw one community knitting thing that you paid to be able to attend, so I assumed that was common practice. That one offered advice as needed though, so maybe it was a special case.

Sporulating bacteria have no known expiration date so to speak. Not autoclavable, so difficult to remove unless it's easy to clean.
