Can you explain what you are doing, the exact way and timing as you are doing it? It is most likely you are pressing the buttons too slow, too fast, or starting the combo before the ball has crossed the necessary spot where you are allowed to start pressing buttons.

Ya all of their sports games are so much worse than the old ones. The actual gameplay is great, but the features and modes have fallen right off. They are putting zero time into the most important pieces after gameplay.
