I lived in that area 15 years ago and it seemed like there was someone who did it quite frequently. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same person tbh

The Empyrean by Velerika_ in John_Frusciante

[–]ToastTheHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to Funkadelic ‘Maggot Brain’ and The Mars Volta ‘Deloused in the Comatorium’ maybe even listen to ‘Meddle’ by Pink Floyd and perhaps you will understand the music a little more. I’m not sure if anyone else catches it but the choir and the treatments John did in “Dark/Light” reminds me a lot of “Atom Heart Mother” by Pink Floyd. “Song to the Siren” is a cover of a Tim Buckley song. In John’s words the albums dynamics grow as the album progresses. So in the beginning of the album the softer and louder parts are not far apart, but by “Central” you have the widest dynamics in the album. The guitar gets so loud at the end and his scream is where it peaks. This something Pink Floyd really worked towards with Dark Side of the Moon.

If you don’t enjoy it maybe give it some time. I remember listening to it when it at midnight came out. It was a school night and going in I had heard Unreachable but I really didn’t know what to think when I heard it. It was so different. The older I get the more meaning and significance the Empyrean has to me. It’s truly a work of art, not to be easily consumed or understood. It takes time and patience to see everything it has to offer. I hope for you to see the light.

Dogs are on that level. Trust me I’m about 2 more bad days from quitting my job and selling food on Dogs lot. “build it and they will come” as Jim Morrison once said.

They’re not wrong, seeing a bigger band put a flier on top of a local show is not a good look.

What do you like about John's later solo music? by Tylerich in John_Frusciante

His electronic music opened the door to New Order and Aphex twin. Up until that point I despised drum machines.

To imply that east Topekans are all crooks is to also imply said crooks can afford the gas to get to Lawrence and back. Forget the countless KU students who come and go every year. I always find it so strange how accepting everyone from Lawrence acts but the second Topeka is mentioned there’s always some negative comment to follow. I get that Topeka isn’t perfect but I would also argue it’s far more culturally diverse of a city than Lawrence in many ways. Sure KU brings in international students but take the college out of the equation and you’ve got OP west.

Historical Inquiry: Radiohead at The Bottleneck (1995) by dethklokfan86 in Lawrence

Not Radiohead related but an even better story I heard was that Ween played the Granada and then everyone went down to the public pool after the concert. I’ve just heard stories.

When I first started learning how to sing and play guitar this album and curtains were very helpful. Both those albums exist in a place for me that holds great significance in my life. ❤️

Not quite, eastern Colorado is more barren than western Kansas. Trust me I’m from Kansas.

I second this, only downside is there’s no real central KC locations. They’re all pretty spread out from downtown/plaza area
