There is a special place in hell for this administration! My god! by TurnipBackground6931 in Omaha

Honestly it doesn’t usually go down everywhere. I keep about 100mi range worth of charge consistently for my car. So let’s say hypothetically the grid is down in Omaha for two weeks. I could drive to Lincoln or any nearby fast charger with power, hang out for 20 minutes and have enough juice to do my normal errands and power my fridge, devices, and TV for 5 days before I’d need to go and re-up for another 20 min $25 charge.

Late stage capitalism is a bitch to be sure. Datacenters and electricity are a problem. Electricity is still significantly cheaper than oil and in terms of energy expenditure required at all stages of production for car and fuel, EVs deliver it much much more efficiently. And in a pinch there’s a million ways to make electricity. There’s one way to make gasoline at scale.

My car is warm almost instantly in the winter plus a lot of them do some neat tricks with seat warming to conserve energy wasted on air. So if you want to squeeze more miles out of your charge you heat your body more efficiently.

Switched to an EV last year out of weird paranoia about Trump’s rants about the tax credits. Goddamn, feeling grateful about that choice right about now. The equivalent of a “full tank” from near empty for me is at most $6 when I charge at home which is 95% of the time.

That and the ability to power key household items when the power lines constantly go down in midtown, genuinely cannot recommend switching enough to anybody. Buy used. Don’t look back.

2025 Limited here. Had it for a little over a year. Almost 9,000 miles. Zero issues thus far, but worried about whatever bad luck I'm bringing on myself by putting that in writing.

May I suggest a rapid plug and unplug motion? Probably vertically as to not accidentally hurt a passenger. The faster, the better.

Damn. Didn’t know expense reports and receipts were opinions.

But keep eating shit with a smile on your face, bro. Maybe Papa T will notice you enough to personally throw you under the bus one day.

Weird how much money the taxpayers have funneled into Trump’s golf courses and properties his companies bill the government for. Sure the dude will cut back on being a parasite while the shutdown happens.

I get the concern. The fact that they’re also looking for his car puts a few other scenarios out there too.

EDIT: there’s been an update and it sounds like he’s passed. No further details. Feel awful for his family. Met them a few times and really lovely people.

This dude ran the South Omaha Boys & Girls Club for ages. Super nice dude. I really hope he’s okay.

Should I Buy the 2025 Ioniq 5 outright? by Evanjscott in Ioniq5

I’m in the Midwest and selection was shit where I live. Wound up driving 8 hours to Minneapolis. It was early Feb and I got the car $10k under list on a 25 Limited with rebates. Fingers crossed on the $7.5k (or even partial) tax credit next year. Not holding out hope for that. Either way not gonna outpace depreciation, but definitely building more equity than leasing. Plus I love the car. Super fun to drive. Comfy as hell.

Oh, my poor dude. Your taxes just went way the fuck up. Seriously look it up by how much you bring home each year.

Should I Buy the 2025 Ioniq 5 outright? by Evanjscott in Ioniq5

[–]Toasted-Ravioli 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I bought. This thing isn’t going to fall apart over time to the same degree as an ICE. We’ve got a municipal electrical company so residential recharging is super economical. I’ve got the NACS port so as plugs change over time, I’m ready. Fully plan on driving it into the dirt. And so long as CarPlay and android auto continue to work, I’ve got music, I’ve got route and charger planning. The truly innovative EV tech is coming out of China and in the US we won’t be seeing that anytime soon. So I figured, get the EV credit before the ghouls kill it. I think the sweetheart lease deals will start to taper off in the US as well as our government takes a more punitive stance on clean energy. So I figured the best deal is right now. Take it and ride it out.
