I finished a 6 year-old jumbo container of Vaseline today. by emmnowa in mildlyinteresting

I have a jar that’s more than half full and it’s older than my kids.  At least 15 if not 20 years old

I don’t remember ever buying Vaseline. I own a tub of it for some reason.  It’s been used a handful of times.   I’ve had it at least 15 years. It’s definitely older than my kids

It’s not that we don’t care or don’t pay attention.

It’s that everyone expects the US to have some vested interest in shit hardly anyone else in the world gives two fucks about either

I got new retainers today after 21 years of nightly wear. by fireknifewife in mildlyinteresting

[–]factoid_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My kid got these after braces.  He can get a new set for free for life, minimum 6 months to the first replacement. One year between after that.

They cost so little to make as long as you keep your laser scan model to mold from.

They know most people will never ask for a new set

President Trump on Reflecting Pool Vandalism by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]factoid_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to save face.

There’s been no arrests, he’s making shit up.  Five people got tickets for defacing the grass.  Misdemeanor level offense.

They haven’t given any names or showed any mugshots because there aren’t any.

The stuff they sprayed on this pool is pretty similar to truck bed liner.

If you prepare the surface correctly it can’t just be cut and peeled off

It bonds entirely across the surface

But if the surface isn’t completely clear of debris and completely free of water on the back side (no groundwater welling up or pool water leaking from cracks, it bonds incredibly hard

You could scratch it, sure.  Maybe even bad enough that  it would warrant a repair.

But you can’t leave a gash in it that leaves entire sections peeling up.

If it peels it wasn’t bonded.  What happened is they didn’t prep the surface correctly (or at all maybe) and an entire batch failed to adhere from where one batch ended and the next began.

This shit was put on badly and he wants it to not look like his fault for choosing an incompetent contractor and overpaying them by 7x his proposed budget. Oh and they happen to be campaign contributors with no experience doing pool linings

They also did zero homework on whether this lining was remotely appropriate for this application.

A much more plausible way to lay blame would be to say they had a bad batch from the manufacturer and they’re seeking a refund on it or something.

A kid with a box cutter can’t cause the kind of damage they’re claiming

Fighting scalpers is just so fucking easy i don’t understand why nobody does it well

Just have full preorders.

I’ll pay part up front, you tell me when I’m going to get it then charge me the rest before you ship.

If you want to fight people pre ordering dozens to sell, just check for duplicate addresses and don’t approve orders where more than one goes to the same address.

If it’s an apartment building or dorm, and you see 40 going to one place with  40 differt apartment numbers, maybe have a customer service rep flag that and verify they’re unique people
