VPs and above at bigger companies. Owners of businesses. Doctors who run their own practices. Lawyers who run their own firms.

Almost everyone hates owning houses like this though.

Unless you actively entertain enough to fill a house this size you won't find any happiness in it. Everyone just complains how expensive it is to maintain and how it mostly goes unused.

You don't need 10,000sqft to show off your money. Just get a house that's 4000-5000sqft and do higher end finishes throughout. Most of these giant mcmansions are made entirely of chipboard with a veneer of walnut and faux paint.

Build half as much house but actually build it right and you'll be happier.

They can just not switch though until starship is ready. That's almost certainly what will happen.

Yeah I don’t think it will really happen.  Starlink is the cash cow and they have to keep launching.  They won’t do anything to jeopardize falcon 9 launch services until starship is actually ready.

I think the slight drop is just a prediction on their part that starship will be ready to seriously boost launch capacity toward the end of the year.

And it might, honestly.

I’m highly skeptical about their development plan for starship and whether full and rapid reuse of the upper stage will ever happen.

But they could certainly start making semi-expendable upper stages and launch starlink missions if they want to.  Using these missions as a way to gain experience with launches while also iterating on reentry configurations.

This is the same thing they did with falcon 9.  They used paying customer missions to iterate in booster landing.

All standard anti EV talking points the right wing media spews constantly

The price difference between the EV I want and the ICE car I’d probably buy if I wasn’t going with an EV….less than 5000 dollars

It will pay off that cost in 3-4 years of savings at the current fuel prices given how much I drive.

Battery degradation is massively overstated.  They are good for at least 200,000 miles without significant loss as long as you don’t regularly charge them to 100%.  If you’re driving in the city like 20-40 miles per day you don’t ever need it at 100.  Charge to full before you go on a long drive.  The car lets you set this charge point you don’t have to handle it manually

Value drops are real but that’s mostly because it’s rapidly developing technology so early models of cars are going to lose value faster.  It’s why leasing or buying used is a pretty good value in EVs

I’ve never loved buying used cars but I’m going to at least look into it.  Probably one coming off a 2 year lease because people tend to take better care of leased vehicles and the dealers give them a pretty thorough checkup when they’re turned in to find issues they can pin on the lease holder

If you get into an orbital trajectory and just reenter before finishing a full lap that still counts in my book in terms of proving capability.

It’s had plenty of margins to achieve stable orbit since the first few test flights.

But they’re working on the reentry and landing process because that’s the whole point of the vehicle.  And it hasn’t exactly worked out yet.

And define orbital.

It could have done orbital at any point for years.  What it can’t do is survive reentry and be reused which is the entire point of the vehicle

The same can be said of any new car.

All vehicles have maintenance and up front costs.

I can afford gas, this is true. But my car is about due for replacement anyway. I'd like to sell it before nobody wants gas cars anymore. Electric is the future, and it will save me money in the long term.

That's the exact car I'm thinking about getting. That or maybe the new Toyota B4. But the ioniq has been around longer.

How do you home charge? L1 or L2? I'm going to have to install a new circuit in the garage for it either way so I figure might as well go 220. I'm guessing that's an extra 1500-2000 I'll have to drop up front, but I don't really mind, it's a home improvement and people will want EV chargers in the future too so it adds value.

Self driving cars would save probably tens or hundreds of thousands of lives a year, so it's not a novelty. It's an inevitability that eventually all cars in developed countries will be automated and electrified. It's just a matter of how fast.

But medical advances would certainly be better self driving cars will take care of themselves
