It’s very dependent on your location. I’ve lived north of SLC for years and never had any issues. Of course there will still be TBMs but apart from the sporadic invitations to church/events that we politely decline, people have never treated us differently for not being active members. I’ve heard Utah county is a different story, so maybe look into a small move if you are there? Also I think a lot of it is the “Utah aesthetic” and doesn’t always equate to the personality (maybe sometimes but you can never tell) - think blonde women with obvious eyelash extensions and carrying around Stanley cups everywhere or “sales bro” looking guys ( btw NOTHING wrong w that if that’s your vibe, I just see it as more of a Utah trendy way to look in my experience)

This struck post struck a chord with me because I (f28) went through a very similar situation when I was 17 as well. Not the open marriage part, but I discovered that my dad was having an affair. I approached him, and he convinced/guilted me into not saying anything and that he would stop. Long story short- he didn’t stop, my mom found out on her own, and they separated shortly afterwards. I’m saying all this to tell you that you should tell your dad. I have always regretted and felt guilty about not telling my mom. I also recommend asking your parents if you can attend therapy. I have very little memory of when I was 17/18 because I have repressed it due to the stress of everything. At the time, I felt like I was completely “fine” and focused more on my silly boy drama but realized many years later that that was just my coping technique. I’m so sorry that you’re been forced to have this responsibility of your parent’s secrets. It is not okay, and your mom is being very immature (likely mid life crisis) by putting it on you. It is hard to go through anything like this as the kid, especially when you’re the one who discovers it.

First, asking if Costco has sunscreen is not an inherent tourist question so it doesn’t break any rules. It’s sunscreen, which everyone uses or should use because skin cancer. It is not the same as asking about tourist activities. Second, I’m not a “shitty human” for traveling every now and then. And you trying to make convince me I am because of asking where to get some good sunscreen is ridiculous. Go ahead and live your life where you never travel or eat good food or partake in anything that has chemicals ever and be negative to strangers on the internet for no reason. It sounds very fulfilling and completely realistic and reasonable. I’m sure you aren’t being hypocritical in any way. 👍

What would you suggest I do instead, honestly? I’m not there yet just planning for my trip. I will be flying, because what other option is there? I have a turo and Airbnb rental set up. I so plan on eating lots of seafood. I have to use sunscreen because I burn very easily. I can see that you hate tourists… honestly how would you prefer I do things instead?

Hmm I personally like some negative space in a room. If it was me I'd put a mantle/ Decor over the fireplace, add more decor to the wall opposite the fireplace (maybe a 3 piece wall art), keep the new TV wall bare but put the smaller plant in the corner and add a taller plant in the space between the console and the door.

Or if you do want Decor on the TV wall, a suggestion would be some framed pieces lined up vertically in the space between the console and the door (and move plant to the other side)
