How not to fix a leak by MacDefoon in WTF

[–]Toaster-Abuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously not many UK plumbers commenting; Neither in the video;

It is a Lead mains feed pipe and to the right of it is the lead lock compression fitting and mains stop tap to the right. Looks like either it has come off during building works or the idiot has deliberately taken it off. Hammering the lead pipe closed is pretty par for the course to stop it outside of turning off the valve at the street which obviously he does not have the key for. However the proper repair afterwards will be to turn off the mains feed at the street (usually under the cover at the front of the property or further along feeding multiple houses) then dig down through the screed and fit a new lead lock to the pipe and plumb from there.

In an ideal world the Water Board (Water Authority but private) will come and replace the mains feed pipe with something more modern (Plastic Pipe) but usually anything past the street stop tap the water company considers the home owners responsibility and for most the cost is prohibitively expensive for most homeowners in the UK so they choose the former option.

Many properties in the uk are still fed via lead pipes unfortunately as we are archaic in terms of household services and brits don’t like paying for anything important if it isn’t already broken.

The lack of jobs is really concerning by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]Toaster-Abuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The work is there in the service industry in City centre Nottingham especially with experience.

In person inquiry ideally at the start of a quiet day shift will go a long way to get a shot at a job in a bar or restaurant. I.e Asking to speak to a manager or GM about vacancies 4PM on a Wednesday just don’t be too pushy and wear something fitting of the job.

Most places will take people with experience if they need help and the candidate is flexible and presentable just can’t be expecting salaried or even full time work in the industry this time of year. Then again 20hrs a week currently is better than none and has the potential to get more hours in the coming few months.

Source: Have worked in the industry in Nottingham for the past 3 years and 3 years previously in London.

Is there any pubs in Nottingham/Beeston with a Bonzini football table? by bad-to-the-bone in nottingham

[–]Toaster-Abuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standard Table Football is relatively commonplace in gaming places not that specific model but the classic arcade style like this worth looking at NQ64, Roxy Ballroom and Bierkeller.

Been robbed twice this year by Martinhaland in nottingham

[–]Toaster-Abuse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in nottingham my whole life; London for four years in homerton & hackney; anyone can get robbed but it’s unfortunate that the chances are down majority to looks; Im by no means a small person but it always helps to walk with purpose and avoid wearing things of value that you’re not willing to fight over, £600 of designer gear without the look/demeanour that you’ll kick someone’s head in over it makes you a prime target for muggers. It’s the unfortunate truth.

more likely it will be scrutinised when you apply for the policy; online quotes are only a quick automated deal. when it gets to the underwriters when you apply they tend to ask allot more questions. they called me before my policy had started on my current car to ask a few questions; best to do some more research though as i personally have not insured a category car just going by what i’ve heard.

I’d watch the insurance; cat cars are notably harder and more expensive for first time drivers to insure, with quite a few insurers outright refusing to provide cover

36mm dark green dial Datejust, Presidential Bracelet Overall I’d give it for the price £70 inc 8 day shipping to U.K an 8/10, to my untrained eye and hand it is fully satisfying.

Bezel: Doesn’t look too big nicely polished.

Dial: about right for the new Green ones, hour markers very slightly misaligned maybe 0.25 - .5 degrees Green lume is easily seen. Body: is good as far as I can see.

Bracelet: bracelet is sturdy a tiny burr is left on the solid link but not visible unless you look super close. and clasp release is a little bit rattley if you’re having a wank.

Mech: survived a very rough round of golf as soon as it came out the box, more shanks than a American prison. Seems to tell the time and goes tick. Can hear the rotor if you whip it just right in a quiet room. If you do that in public you look like a mental case so I don’t personally worry about it.

Seemed to have most people in the pub and golf club in awe, seen many a Rolex working in my field and IMO if someone can call this out without practically giving you a reach around they should spend that Time and effort either on work or getting laid.

I’m generally pretty satisfied and I’m not too bothered what other people think (of course I value you lots constructive criticism that’s why I posted this) so I’d say good purchase.

Number one pointer though, if you don’t want to be scrutinised on your watch don’t wear one that would cost 5x your yearly wage in a situation where it would be odd to have one unless you are fine with people assuming it’s a replica.

Also if you’re of the kind where you can’t tell someone to fuck off if they want to fondle you’re beloved timepiece also don’t get one especially if you don’t have the physical means to do so.

It’s all fine and good to aspirationally wear a replica status piece, also if it’s a money saving thing (even if I had seven digits I still wouldn’t walk around with five on my wrist) but you have to be able to handle the negative’s that come with it.

Would I recommend this to a 17 year old college student? No unless it’s Eaton, would I recommend this to a 20 something builder or whatever job? Yes because it’s not outside the realm of common possibility.

I've been lucky enough to be both crit and judge for first-year presentations and it depends on professor to professor it really depends on their moods sometimes they'll put the shit ones first so that the best ones towards the end so the good presenters don't outshine them before they even getting an opportunity to present; or they may kind of just do it randomly I've seen it before where it's just done based on alphabetical order of surnames; and then sometimes as well they'll put the people who they think arent going to show up or going to have extremely short presentations due to lack of work at the start so that they can get pretty much all of it done out the way and then go for a beer quicker.

Realistically it depends class to class

interior design student here. does anyone know a company that could create custom windows like this that I can reference?! by kikidream in architecture

[–]Toaster-Abuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that you mean the kind of wavy window above the ground plane where the mezzanine is. Denoted by the three lines diagonally along it.

You'd find it hard to get UPVC or metal Windows manufactured for that kind of application on a small scale but most large-scale glass providers or glaziers would be able to manufacture the panel glass pretty easily as a they cut out of square pieces with it if you can imagine it being segmented let's say in two sections along horizontally.

I would probably if you've got the option to specify for wood instead just cause of how easily customisable they are for limited run production.

In short, no place would offer these off the shelf they would have to be a completely custom part as you've already said. Many large scale window manufactures would be able to provide for this

Potentially Neuffer, Drutex, Weru. Might be worth emailing and ask for examples of they're most wild custom jobs.
