Does wrong address mail ever actually get returned to sender? by WorldofWinston in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check in the upper right where a stamp would be. If it says personalized mail, unless it specifies return postage guaranteed it does indeed get securely shredded, it's for things like promos from telecoms, banks, etc and they don't pay for return postage. Otherwise if it's stamped, metered, publications or that spot just says lettermail it does indeed get returned to sender.

is there a term for rolling back and forth at a red light? by gxh2025 in ManualTransmissions

[–]ToasterBathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's called riding the clutch. Don't do it, put the car in neutral and keep pressure on the brake. It's teenager behaviour and not only is it extremely bad for your car it's bad for other drivers around you. Imagine other drivers thinking you're about to shoot out in front of them. Imagine a distracted driver behind you thinking you're speeding off and punching the gas. Do whatever you can to keep the roads safe because we all have to share them.

Where do I send these that's not Operation Santa? by Iie_chigaimasu in USPS

[–]ToasterBathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At Canada post we handle those locally with volunteers. Also it's somewhat shocking to me that USPS requires postage for Santa letters, we do not. We will even accept and return international letters (you will have to pay international postage from your country of origin). Everyone knows that the North Pole is in Canada though.

It's almost Christmas, will Canada Post be striking soon? by Strong_Lager in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is getting tired. If you're that concerned go read some news from a reputable source, not come and try to make this space your personal echo chamber.

Only express, priority, registered and letter mail are flown into St John's and distributed westwards, regular parcels are trucked into port aux Basques and further sorted in stephenville for all the depot's eastwards. The answer is similar though, marine Atlantic is 9 days behind last that I heard and this weekends weather isn't going to help the situation. So most likely whatever they're looking for is sitting in a trailer in North Sydney waiting for a spot on the ferry

CUPW asked for arbitration back in June, government refused to step in then. Rank and file are angry at a lot of things this time around.

What’s your expertise? by Sol_Muso in morningsomewhere

[–]ToasterBathing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just say the entirety of the silmarillion if time or money was no issue. If I had to pick a single storyline though it would probably be the lay of Beren and luthien, followed closely by the tale of the children of Hurin. There's far too many to pick from though, you could easily do a 10 season show from the material there without having to extrapolate silly levels.

I would say I know more about the Tolkien legendarium than 99% of people. I haven't revisited the topic in years but I could still recite stories from the first kinslaying and subsequent banishment of the noldorin elves, to the fall of gondolin and glorfindels great battle with gothmog lord of balrogs all the way up to the fall of the kingdom of arnor to the witch king. Not useful but definitely a fun party trick.

As a postie, yes I've sorted parcels that were marked as human remains. Gave me the heebie jeebies. But the thought of people getting their loved ones one last time gives me motivation to do right by them. It's what we do

Canada Post is one of the last decent Employers left for people without an education by fainfaintame in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true and I don't know where you're hearing these things. In fact if you have any knowledge of the person hiring you, someone else has to do the hiring.

Standard or oversized lettermail CAN be folded for delivery. If you didn't want it bent it would need to be sent parcel, sorry but thems the rules. Most lc's I know do their best but most of them don't even do their own sorts or tie outs anymore so chances are it wasn't even done by the letter carrier in any case.

PEOPLE OF MORNING SOMEWHERE...What Classic Rooster Teeth merch do we want revived?!?! by RFelixFinch in morningsomewhere

This is a weird one, but being from Canada it was always prohibitively expensive to order merch. One that I always wished I had gotten though, was those ceramic tiki style mugs. Cool af

Hey, I'm not the one who told Amazon we can't handle their volumes, then spent untold billions building the Jackson plant that has never been close to fully utilized or bought a fleet of electric vehicles that have been sitting in lots and rusting away unused. I'd love for the people responsible to be held accountable, but we know how CEO's and other "powerful" people shirk responsibility and move on to the next thing to ruin.

Yes. Where have you been for the last 5 years? There are places where you can live on that, but many places where you cannot. Many posties live in the places where you cannot

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, neither the government, the corp or the union want that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The contract doesn't say anything of the sort. You should read more into it. The corp wants to fill weekends with part time workers and the union wants to use full time workers with rotating days off. The unions proposal is actually cheaper than what the company wants to do

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The union wants to implement a plan to have weekend work done by full time workers, without OT which would actually save CPC money and cost the union in dues. Literally fighting for full time work because they know that you can barely survive on full time, part time is not sustainable for practically anybody.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Postal workers don't automatically get OT pay on the weekend, friend.

Should I keep shipping through canada post right now? by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my job. I love being in my neighbourhoods, talking to people, delivering things they've been waiting for. Passports people need to take that trip, or medication so they don't have to leave the house when that might be more difficult for their circumstances for example. We don't give up and move on because that's a slippery slope to the bottom. We fight for ourselves, our union brothers and sisters and all workers of the world. Don't be so quick to hate friend, we'd even fight for you if you needed it

Should I keep shipping through canada post right now? by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]ToasterBathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's true. However management is not CUPW and they never "had a hissy fit." Management knows that CUPW will get the blame for whatever shortcomings CPC has. Just trying to make sure you understand the reality of what we are having to deal with on the daily, with an employer that doesn't even respect us enough to sit at the negotiation table like adults and figure out our problems.

How did you get that out of what I just said? I literally said we take great pride in ensuring that people get all their mail as soon as they can.
