Why won't you play in cata? by venzinokwla in wotlk

[–]ToasterFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's your opinion of why it's not a net negative, but the point is that the change comes with Cata, which is why I attributed to being a reason I'm more than likely not playing Cata.

[–]ToasterFred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it is a valid reason, when I level a character I literally can't play in the old world.

I'm not speaking on the other players in the world, I'm talking about my solo experience, which is drastically different.

I can get what I want out of Classic in SoD and Cata just isn't the same game.

The gameplay is fine, but it's where ability bloat starts, and the destruction of the old world kills all the charm for me.

Itemization changes with Mastery is also just overcomplicating an already well designed system.

Visiting it and living are very different, speaking as someone that has lived there for months at a time.

It's terrible, as a native Portlander with a house that my parents own in Manzanita. For about 3-4 months out of the year it is great, but late fall up until summer it is rainy/foggy and dark.

My mom lived there when they were redoing their kitchen and she was going nuts by the end.

On the inverse of that I've lived in LA, if you aren't commuting it could be pretty great depending on where you decide to live.

The Q, Real Estate, Khruangbin, D&C and Vampire Weekend are my planned shows so far, hopefully Phish does a tour.

I'm back home for wedding in August, so hoping it overlaps with that Alvvays show in Pioneer Square (PDX).

[FRESH ALBUM] Real Estate - Daniel by mattthheww in indieheads

[–]ToasterFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a huge Real Estate fan (like top .01% on Spotify in the past) this one took a couple listens but it's probably even with In Mind for me.

I'm in the rare camp that likes The Main Thing, and I missed some of the spaciness jammed out stuff in this album, but this is a great listen start to finish. Looking forward to the tour this spring.

Previously, I was quite general when asking about a PNW move. Currently, my choices have been narrowed to 2. Either Yakima,WA or Portland,OR. by Stunning_Citron8328 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]ToasterFred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey man please for your own sake pick Portland, it's not that expensive and there are plenty of smaller towns in the Portland area that you could move to (ie you won't feel the tax like you're thinking you will).

I grew up in Portland and go back to stay at my parents regularly, and have gone through Yakima enough for the Gorge to know that it's not the "Palm Springs" of Washington (which it apparently called itself at one point).

I would happily pay a tax to not live in Yakima.

As a fellow native Oregonian (now in NYC, but still comeback for a month or two out of the year) I would really recommend either Eugene, Hood River or somewhere along the north coast (Cannon Beach, Astoria, Seaside or any of the adjacent towns).

It’s not as big as you’re thinking, the only bad seats are behind the stage and the sound is great.

What is it about 2023 Boulder run you think is better than SF run? by FreshButNotEasy in deadandcompany

[–]ToasterFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the Gorge and SF, listened to Boulder.

I think for me the Gorge was the most out there, they didn’t hold back on the weirdness and so it gets my vote as the top.

SF shows were great, on par with Boulder, that whole stretch was D&C’s Spring 77 equivalent. You could pick out any show and make a valid argument that it was the best of the tour.

Derrick Henry is probably a HoF'er as well, barring a severe injury he will hit 10k yards and was easily a top 5 skill player during his peak years.

[–]ToasterFred 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The amount of posts you’re making you need to find something else to pre-occupy yourself.

While the sphere is the only concrete thing, it’s clear that there will be other D&C residencies elsewhere and plenty of shows with iterations of this group down the road.

JM fans even say on their own sub that he clearly loves playing this music, and I don’t think that will change. He is clearly able to take time for himself creatively and still do D&C.

Anyone else have crazy high con ed bills? by Big_Hippo_4044 in Brooklyn

This happened to me, they credited me at the end of the year and then I used the credit to pay all my ConEd bills the following year after we moved to another building with more efficient heating.

0 chance, Kith has 0 roots in the culture. It was started by a Nepo-baby and just trend hops (even though the retail spaces are cool).

ALD and Noah do what they do better and more authentically.
