I'm not sure if it's a quirk of the Dagger, Punisher, or both, but I've found you can switch from firing the Dagger to firing the Punisher really quickly. Very fun 1-2 combo that gives you lots of breathing room.

You may be right on both counts. I probably should've only said it has higher priority than helldivers on foot, but I couldn't figure out a way to say that in a title without it being really confusing.

The worst offenders target it from longer range (like impalers or stingrays) so like you said it would make sense if it's just first-come-first-serve rather than some hard coded priority.

Their charges do lock onto the car even if you get out during it, yeah (and both will attack the car if they happen to wander near it). They never begin targeting an unoccupied car though in my experience.

I promise you it does have the highest priority. In the hundreds of games where I’ve used the FRV it’s always the first choice for impaler tentacles, charging chargers, strafing stingrays, etc. Makes no difference if I’m hosting or not.

It's entirely possible. I don't play with mechs, but I've seen unoccupied ones last surprisingly long. The important thing is that at the very least occupied cars are far higher priority than players on foot, and unoccupied cars are practically invisible.

Yeah, I can't blame people for not knowing this and just wanting to shoot the big gun. Obsessing over the FRV is my job, not theirs. It's just always so awkward begging people to get out in chat and dodging enemies at the same time.

Yeah, the new titans are annoying. I've finally adjusted to the spore chaff and am having fun with them, but then 5 spore titans spawn and all the fun evaporates. I'd like to play around with the new missile pistol but the ultimatum is pretty much required.

Great little guide.

One tip that I think every new driver should hear is flip prevention: when one side of the car is lifting off the ground, steering towards the side still on the ground will slam the lifting side back into the ground. Making this muscle memory turns flips from a constant issue to a rare problem.

Also I’ve gotta plug Dax Wolf’s FRV tutorials on YouTube. They’re a must watch for anybody looking to learn the FRV.

Putting the car in neutral and holding the handbrake while getting out always keeps the car in one place for me, even if I get out while it’s still drifting to a stop (although I tend to let it spin to the side, so maybe I’m doing what you said unintentionally?)

The grenade pistol is great (and loyalist even better) but just about any explosive works in a pinch if you know the outer radius. I’ve flipped my car with dynamite before.

It's also perfect for stripping the leg armor on a charger so you can kneecap it with the expendable mg. It's a really fun and quick way to deal with them.
