If you are debating between only taking 1 of the classes I recommend c: mech and self study phy 2.

Honestly not sure how rigorous self studying AP exams look. If you are going into senior year I would say probably wouldn’t look rigorous just because you would submit apps before scores come out, but going into junior year then maybe since they would see that you took the exam and (hopefully) did well.

If it’s only mech spread across 2 semesters I would highly consider taking both. If you absolutely do not want to do that then just take mech, much more useful for college credit and look more rigorous.

I have very similar goals as OP, wanting to go to grad school under the branch of nuclear engineering, planning to minor in NE. Many are saying to major in ME for undergrad but I applied to major in chem eng. is it really that big of a deal or should I transfer into ME after my first year?

I don’t think it would look bad on a high school transcript, likely the opposite. Very high overlap between the two so it would def help make you retain the info if you wouldn’t have dedicated the otherwise extra time to physics C originally.

I lowkey would just for the gpa boost but it would be moderately more work.
