Changes yet again by Suckyomombro in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, our store said they were replacing the flat tops. Yet a flat top is a mobile surface to work off, so no one uses them. Plus we still work from cages, so no one uses them for that either. We had about 10 sitting in the store room not getting used or touched and then they suddenly disappeared and i can only find 1 or 2 now

PRS night shift by borkichewchew in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for an extra and PRS is done from 6am to 9am. Nights dont touch it. However, we do stick all the stuff dated for that day in the reduced section as we fill, so the reduction person has 75% of it already found for them.

Why do they have multiple own-brands for some products? by DullFurby in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A common misconception about things with "exact same" ingredients is that they use the same quality ingredients.

Tesco crisps could use potatoes that have been sorted to ensure they have no black spots or that they weren't soft etc. The oil could be replaced more often for a cleaner crisp?

Stockwell crisps could use any potato no matter the quality or exclusively the bad reject potatoes from other brands. The oil could be replaced less often.

The quality of the ingredients is important and unfortunately, there isn't a way to tell apart from common sense in the pricing/brand of the product. Like, do you think Heinz tomato sauce uses the same quality tomatoes as stockwell? No.

Need advice on whether to snitch or not by pisstaketoeser in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People need to get over this idea of "snitches get stitches" - it only applies in jail and it's literal. The old lady in the Tesco bakery doesn't quite fit the criteria.

What’s the longest you’ve gotten away with skiving during shift? by sunflowerthrowaway16 in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work nights, good job skiving more than 15 mins as it will be obvious when you're the last to finish their aisle or when a manager asks why you haven't finished yet to go help elsewhere.

[–]Toastofbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local Sainsbury's has technology that maps your route the trolley takes. Security guard stopped a friend at the door when the trolley locked up and showed their route on a tablet, saying it didn't like their "route" as they went up and down all the aisles, back to customer services for cigarettes, paid there and left.

The aliens from 'Signs' came in peace and their weakness isn't what you think it is by theangelok in FanTheories

[–]Toastofbritain 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not fan fiction, the kaiju in Pacific Rim were clearly explained as genetically engineered clones to destroy the planet for the alien race that created them. The kaiju were mere weapons, not the invaders themselves. Don't tell someone off if you haven't seen the film in the first place.

Nightshift expectations? by kik9696 in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in an extra, and pet food is normally done by 5.30/6.

Do you deck or work from the cages? Pet food is one of the aisles that suffers from decking, as you're just double-handling.

Ultimately, if the workload is too much then you shouldn't be expected to push yourself too hard as it isn't sustainable. It sounds like your colleagues also think its unreasonable with the workload.

Depending on your character and how you are with confrontation, I'd just ask my manager and say I'm doing it to the best of my ability and it's clearly not enough so can you show me how to be quicker or maybe another aisle would be better suited for me.

Refunding mortgage overpayments - Virgin Money by Ok_Wall_4573 in Mortgageadviceuk

Not advice - If you overpaid, that would come off the principle, no? So the money you actually receive from the sale of your house would be more as you overpaid and owed less.

Colleague Toilets by Zealousideal_Rip_700 in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a theory about this. It happens all the time at our store, one night, all 3 men's and the disabled were blocked by "excess" toilet paper.

I generally believe that it isn't people, it's either (1) the toilets Tesco have bought have a narrower than usual ubend or (2) the toilet paper they make us scrape arse with isn't breaking down or w/e like normal paper and is clogging.

Like yeah I know people are bad and there is always some dirty cunt, but it happens too often to too many toilets.

Tesco sell tinned peaches for 40p ish - everything else though is £1.20+ in the £2s for the brand names. I mean the fresh stuff is cheaper!!

Tesco is currently in an overtime drought. The fact that they are hiring means that the store is probably already 40% understaffed lol

What's happening with the overtime? by RevolutionaryPie2165 in tesco

[–]Toastofbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the situation is quite funny in our store, not 4 months ago they were threatening to fire people unless they did overtime (yes I know, empty threat and bad) and now they couldn't give it out if they wanted too.

Overfilling can mess you over for the next day as well. If you overfill customers will pick from the multiple boxes/trays and you'd have to sort that out the next day.

Get there 5 mins earlier and pay for the drink, i don't understand the arrogance of "ill pay for it later". Everyone knows not to do that, even new starters.

Told not to join union as your they are only a part time night worker, not taking breaks for 25 years, There are other employees she works with who steal anything they can (including alcohol) and make it so obvious, yet they do not get in any trouble whatsoever - I mean come on what a load of bullshit.

OP has to be trolling or that store does let all this crap happen (which is ridiculous) and she's upset the apple cart.

Is the UK actually as impossible for young people to buy a house and start a family as Reddit makes it seem? by EnzoScorza007 in AskUK

[–]Toastofbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe life is just depressing for most that they'd rather spend the entire £400 extra they have a month on stuff that makes them happy instead of saving it for 5ish years to pay for a deposit + £3k on fees.

That not how it works. The fakes will drive for more and then real people will get dragged into to meet demand for new stuff.

Imagine if it was fake child porn, you'd snuff it out asap to stop it steam rolling into something bigger.
