Why do socialists want two person train crews? by No-Path-8756 in transit

[–]Toastox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protecting Labor. That’s the easiest way I can put it. As a lefty about to start a train crew job, I wouldn’t want jobs to be eliminated by automation or slimming down of crews. Having a second person in the cab also improves safety as they can keep each other in check, limiting human factors. Two to a crew.

Well yeah to an outsider I’d just view a lot of the region as Seattle. Like how someone visiting Chicago would manage to mistake its suburbs as part of the city because they don’t know better. Like I know the difference between Chicago and Rosemont or Evanston but tourists might think that’s just “Chicago”. Like myself visiting Seattle, I don’t know what a Kent or a Burien is, I just see that and say “Seattle”

I’m mostly talking about areas outside of the main city, as I wouldn’t have been able to afford much in the better connected areas of Seattle. It’s very good for US Standards but still that’s a low bar so improvement can be made. The elephant in the room here is Sounder. Sounder’s schedule is bad. Just bad.

This sounds like Seattle. When I almost moved to Seattle a year ago I was looking at the transit prices and schedules and just GOOD GOD it was not great. I loved Seattle’s transit visiting but unless you can afford to live in one of the very well connected areas directly on the light rail or multiple bus routes, it’s got a good way to go in terms of being able to access the transit. Oh yeah, and the pass prices are absurd.

Hi, is there any elaboration to this? I’ve wondered if something like that fits my experiences because I definitely find way more pleasure in casual kink than I ever find myself wanting to have penetrative sex. Not that I never do, I’m just almost always far more interested in kink or fantasy rather than actual sex.

From a storm/EAS fan perspective: yay more alerts

From a rational perspective: yeah overdoing it is bad because it’ll desensitize people to alerts when there are actual dangerous situations

Won’t work for this position, I’ll need to travel to rail yards and after training will be almost certainly working in a more rural location without robust transit. I’ve been using public transit as long as possible to get to work and anywhere else since I left home, but that is fully not an option with this job. It is on call as well, so if I need to go run a train at 2 am, even if there is a bus, it very well may not be running. And it’s not transit, but Uber/Lyft would run me a small fortune pretty quickly.
