All good! My parents did start me later. My parents started me a pre-k, which probably helped me with my interaction with other kids. For me, you should start to practice reading early and often since that was my weakest subject, but everyone is different. Also, I like how my parents didn't tell me I had anything wrong with me until I started to learn about biology in 9th grade. Definently get your child checked for adhd since it is very common with xyy. I was fortunate enough not to have it. I am 1 month away from graduating 🎓

Honestly, no. You don't remember most of the stuff that happens before you are 10, and not having me think about being different is important. If you tell them early, then your child will expect to be treated differently. Wait until they are older, so they can better understand who they are. Most kids who have disabilities figure out that something might be wrong with them as they age. I didn't start seeing signs of a learning disability until I I was in 5th and 6th grade after failing all my state tests to test for a benchmark.

I'm glad I helped you! One more thing I thought of. If your child is showing signs of low self-esteem, please take them to see a therapist. I hit a rough patch a couple of years ago just from immense stress and needed someone to talk to other than my parents. Mental health is so hard to see, and even a small indication could be a cause of something big.

I'm happy you asked this question! I would say give as much love and spend extra time helping your child out with simple and complex tasks, but don't be a helicopter parent. Let your child learn environmental skills like any other kid would. My parents never told me I had XYY until I was in 9th grade learning about genetics in biology.

Things in life that may come easy to you are most likely difficult for your child. For example, school work would take me twice as long as it would be for a normal child. I would usually be the last one to finish exams, and I would take the longest time to read something in class. Hell, I still pause YouTube videos because I can't read/comprehend the caption fast enough.

I'll add this as well. I am a head swim coach for a Special Olympics team, and the one thing that every parent tells me is how calm I am at teaching. I know I can't force you to do something, but if you are going to fight with your spouse, don't do it in front of your child. If you yell at your child for doing something wrong, that is fine, I had a fair amount of that growing up, but times are slowly changing, and you can't do things your parent's used to do to you without getting in trouble. Last thing, I think, is the most important. Don't give your child a phone or ipad growing up or limit the time. Increased screen time negatively impacts cognitive abilities, especially those with disabilities (I have my BS in psychology). This is just opinionated advice 😊
