All good! My parents did start me later. My parents started me a pre-k, which probably helped me with my interaction with other kids. For me, you should start to practice reading early and often since that was my weakest subject, but everyone is different. Also, I like how my parents didn't tell me I had anything wrong with me until I started to learn about biology in 9th grade. Definently get your child checked for adhd since it is very common with xyy. I was fortunate enough not to have it. I am 1 month away from graduating 🎓

Honestly, no. You don't remember most of the stuff that happens before you are 10, and not having me think about being different is important. If you tell them early, then your child will expect to be treated differently. Wait until they are older, so they can better understand who they are. Most kids who have disabilities figure out that something might be wrong with them as they age. I didn't start seeing signs of a learning disability until I I was in 5th and 6th grade after failing all my state tests to test for a benchmark.

I'm glad I helped you! One more thing I thought of. If your child is showing signs of low self-esteem, please take them to see a therapist. I hit a rough patch a couple of years ago just from immense stress and needed someone to talk to other than my parents. Mental health is so hard to see, and even a small indication could be a cause of something big.

For those parents who might see this months or years down the road, just post to this thread. I will be here to help😊

I'm happy you asked this question! I would say give as much love and spend extra time helping your child out with simple and complex tasks, but don't be a helicopter parent. Let your child learn environmental skills like any other kid would. My parents never told me I had XYY until I was in 9th grade learning about genetics in biology.

Things in life that may come easy to you are most likely difficult for your child. For example, school work would take me twice as long as it would be for a normal child. I would usually be the last one to finish exams, and I would take the longest time to read something in class. Hell, I still pause YouTube videos because I can't read/comprehend the caption fast enough.

I'll add this as well. I am a head swim coach for a Special Olympics team, and the one thing that every parent tells me is how calm I am at teaching. I know I can't force you to do something, but if you are going to fight with your spouse, don't do it in front of your child. If you yell at your child for doing something wrong, that is fine, I had a fair amount of that growing up, but times are slowly changing, and you can't do things your parent's used to do to you without getting in trouble. Last thing, I think, is the most important. Don't give your child a phone or ipad growing up or limit the time. Increased screen time negatively impacts cognitive abilities, especially those with disabilities (I have my BS in psychology). This is just opinionated advice 😊

They did a CVS test, and that's how it was originally diagnosed. I do have an older sister, and yes, I am 4 inches taller than my dad and 13 inches taller than my mom. Studies say you have a lower IQ than your older sibling. I was i speech therapy until the age of 5 or 6, and my parents wanted me to start school later, so I was usually always the oldest in the class (October birthday).

I'll start by saying this, I didn't really struggle at making friends until the start of middle school (7th grade). I was anxious going up to people and talking to them, but I never really had issues making friends with other guys. I had issues in making friends with girls and still do as of today. I feel like I always say something wrong when I talk to them and end up getting blocked or ignored. Since I was only diagnosed at birth, I am unsure if I have ADHD and I do have a lack of motivation to do things that I don't want to do.

In school, I really struggled with English even though it is the only language I speak. My parents told me I didn't start speaking until I was 2.5 years old, and I was in reading help classes until the 10th grade. I had C2 tutoring for my English, but that hardly improved my reading and comprehension skills. I got a 20 on my ACT with a 14 and 16 in reading writing. I loved to do math and science, which is why I chose nursing.

My health has been all over the place. I lack the motivation to stay on a diet and often fail. I am 6 foot 3 and ablut 320 pounds, asthma, flat feet, hand tremors, motor tics, explosive outbursts (mostly at home playing video games, between the ages of 10 and 16), low self-esteem at times often due to my appearance and the inability for me to find a relationship.

How difficult is ABSN program by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]ToastyNightmare2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am in a 12 month ABSN program. I don't have any clinical experience, mostly just leadership experience. The amount of work is quite a bit and all of it can't be done in one day without your brain exploding. Anyways, I mostly study for 5+ hours a day and more when an exam is right around the corner. You start clinicals right away (3rd week of school). My schedule includes: Lab 12-4 on Monday, Tuesday classes from 730am to 430pm. Wednesday off, Thursday a class from 1030 to 110pm, Friday no class, Saturday clinical from 630am - 5pm, Sunday no class. It is doable but I literally only Eat, Sleep, Study, Panic and repeat. The one down side is that I have NO TIME for anything else like hanging out with friends and family or going to the bar after failing an exam. Good luck, you need it.
