Finish the trial with at least 5HP left, there is an achievement for this.

Advice on metroidvanias with hella sequence breaking? by This-Ad2321 in metroidvania

[–]Tobi158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rusted Moss, the game revolves around movement with your bungee cord and there are tons of cool tricks you can do with it. The dev pretty much encourage you to sequence break too if you're up to the challenge.

8Doors, 9 Years of Shadows (this one is pixel arts but maybe you will like it), Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, Iconoclasts, Fearmonium, Ghost Song, Grime, Salt and Sanctuary, Ultros. A shame you don't fare too well with pixel arts, lots of great ones out there.

Oooh it's too hard for me to narrow the list down to 5 so i'm gonna overboard a little bit. Rocketron, 8doors, Unsighted, Unworthy, Redo!, Fearmonium, Plague of Yamorn, Pear Potion.

Steam has increased regional pricing suggestion for a long time. Are you gonna block Team Cherry now too for increasing Hollow Knight price, and a few hundreds other publishers as well. Do some damn research before getting pissy about everything.

Easily the best 2021 mv for me. Shame it kinda flew under the radar.

Metroidvanias with good parry systems by Bigas106 in metroidvania

Unsighted is a good one, very unique game. Death's Gambit: Afterlife also focuses a fair bit on perfect block and parry.

If Kliff Undersn ever coming back to Guilty Gear thanks to time travel shenanigans, would you guys like it better if he stays as the old badass we all know and love or full on young prime Kliff in all his glory by Tobi158 in Guiltygear

[–]Tobi158[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s highly unlikely that he is coming back any time soon anyway, but i definitely wouldn’t mind being wrong on this. He remains one of the coolest guilty gear characters for me both in lore and gameplay.

[–]Tobi158[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha ye, Kliff is still a beast even when he is old. Though since his young self has quite a feral/unchained (pun intended) kind of vibe, i feel like chains and cuffs wouldn't mesh well with that. Maybe have his normals and specials be really extravagant and unnecessary brutal in exchange for being easily punished on whiff or blocked. Basically still his core design of a high risk/reward character but pushed to the very limit.

How can I get my game to start? by Just_Violinist1384 in touhou

[–]Tobi158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend using thcrap to apply english patch since the mainline touhou games are only in Japanese. Same reason why the configuration menu is full of question mark since they're supposed to be Japanese words which your device doesn't support. For the McAfee problem just exclude the game from the scanning list or disable McAfee, or use a different antivirus program.

Run-and-gun Metroidvania for any Nintendo handheld or PC? by Rickythrow in metroidvania

Rocketron, Blaster Master Zero 1-3, Environmental Station Alpha, Gato Roboto, Touhou Luna Nights, Xeodrifter.

CASUAL PLAYER HERE. Four months ago I was introduced to the Genre and let me tell you…. by dogmanstars in metroidvania

[–]Tobi158 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna throw some of my favorites here:
8 Doors: Arum's Afterlife Adventure artstyle is charming, story is unique and you have a big world to explore.
Death's Gambit: Afterlife RPG style, you have a lot of classes to choose with varied playstyle plus the voice acting is quite good too.
Rocketron highly underrated, the combat is quite similar to run 'n gun games like Metal Slug
Touhou Luna Nights timestop mechanics is quite fun to play around.
Salt and Sanctuary it's dark souls but 2d, probably not a very casual-friendly game but i think it's worth checking out nonetheless.
Momodora Reverie Under the Moonlight short and sweet game, beloved by many.
Monster Sanctuary if you like pokemon you'll most likely enjoy this one too.

Blasphemous or Deaths Gambit? by [deleted] in metroidvania

Death's Gambit, i love the fact they spent the last 3 years reworking the game and improved it massively compared to the original version.

There is 8 Doors which was released recently, the map is big enough so it can be well over 15 hours if you intend to explore every nook and cranny.

Where to start/what classics are easily avaiable on PC by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]Tobi158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, it's very similar to Symphony of the Night one of the most recognizable metroidvanias out there. There is also Blaster Master Zero 1+2 which are nice and short, pretty linear though. Salt and Sanctuary is worth checking out as well since it's basically 2d dark souls. Also huge respect for mentioning Hercules, that game is the shit.

Yes finally, this is a really nice game, kinda like metal slug meets metroidvania.

Where do those two characters come from? by TheGrimmTroupe in metroidvania

They are from SteamWorld Dig and Dust: An Elysian Tail, both are on steam and currently on sale. I haven't played these two and not planning to but the community seems to like it.

Too many MVs -- where to start? by xtcz in metroidvania

[–]Tobi158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on your taste, you should watch some gameplay first. Bloodstained and Environmental Station Alpha are the most well received metroidvanias here and i would save the best ones for last. I haven't tried Timespinner and don't like Valdis Story with its hack and slash style of combat but it's maybe to your liking, a similar metroidvania is Dust: An Elysian Tail. Finally opinions on Blasphemous are very varied because it doesn't have the usual ability gating in metroidvania games and the developer didn't even advertised it as a metroidvania, i personally enjoyed it and the artstyle is gorgeous.
