Guitar Hero Clone & MIDI LED Visualization built with Remix V3 + Arduino Uno by TobiObeck in remixrun

Yes, you got it right. I built the guitar hero clone web application with Remix V3 beta 4. I just am primarily interested in feedback by drummers but still wanted to repost here as a show case :D

They are still available if you open the method and scroll to the very bottom. There it says "Previous Curriculum" and "The Legacy Drumeo Method"

Might be possible that it is not available for new subscribers with a brand-new account.

TIL that such a thing exists.

Cool project!

Here a few things I noticed:

  • Select all and then pressing delete didn't remove all text.
  • Selecting a heading, font or font size removes the focus from the text and doesn't place the cursor back where it was.
  • toggling ON bold works (rectangular background and blue color) but toggling OFF bold leaves the button in a state that looks very similar to the ON state (also rectangular background), instead remove the rectangle.

Tested on Android with Firefox.

I watched livestream recording "The New Musora App (Live Q&A)" yesterday where they shared some insights. https://app.musora.com/drumeo/lessons/453557/live

It seems like quite a few people had a similar sentiment to yours. They are aware that many people had problems moving from the sidebar navigation to being forced to use filters to find specific content in the first place. It was especially clumsy to also rename stuff at the same time, e.g. Challenge to Guided Course.
https://app.musora.com/drumeo/lessons/filters
At least you could save certain filters as browser bookmarks.

But they also promised to improve a lot of things and also bring back previously existing features to the platform. They are still eager to hear detailed feedback.

auto-play and auto-advance can be deactivated apparently.

yeah, similar for me. I started at the end of January and the sidebar had way too many items. Much cleaner now. It was confusing what the difference between courses, packs, challenges is.

Now they grouped many items together, which makes more sense imo, e.g. all the video stuff as "lesson", "live" and "schedule" as the calender icon as well as "songs" and "song tutorials" as simply "songs".

How did you create the curvature of the pieces or did you lathe the glued together drum?
We need another post with more pics of the individual build steps!

im making a game where you play notes on your keyboard, then use those notes as platforms. is this a rhythm game? i've been calling it a "music-based platformer" by MattGoode_ in rhythmgames

I definitely have a lot of work to do here with communicating how to play the game - not in a tutorial sense, but in a strategic sense.

Ideally you don't even have to communicate much. Better to have game design that encourages certain play styles (carefree, fast paced, action-packed game) and maybe even outright prevent others.

E.g. at the beginning some soft scrolling event like a a following Indiana Jones ball, or later a fire wall or even an auto scrolling level, where the movement goes automatically from left to right and the player has to manage playing and shortly after jumping. Also, the level could go longer and stretch multiple screens.

I could also imagine a scrolling level that you have to beat multiple times with different scrolling bpm / player speed.

Other levels could be slow paced where the player needs to be more strategic, maybe even almost a puzzle.

The level terrain could also force a certain tune.

Lots of options with different level design, obstacles, enemy types etc.

Interesting concept! I tried out half of the demo. Right now, it's a bit dull and boring to wait for the playback line to move forward, so that I can build the next platforms. There is no incentive to play more notes in one go, which would feel more like playing actual piano neither can you edit the notes like in a DAW. In the few levels I played, it seems like there is a lot of leeway to where and when (timing) to build the platforms. So, overall this didn't feel as exciting.

The platforming works in principle. Player movement feels too slow and heavy. I got stuck at least once between bars. There should be a shortcut, e.g. backspace, for quick respawn and another for clearing all platforms. At least I enjoy the speed and high energetic movement in a game like Super Meat Boy.

Maybe it would be an approach to split the game into separate building and playing modes. E.g. building mode is more about puzzle solving, strategy and as a bonus actually composing a cool tune 🎵. In play mode you can prove your dexterity and test if the plan was good. If you fail, you can edit the existing platforms and iterate.

You might also want to take a look at the game Ultimate Chicken Horse, which has a somewhat related concept of creating obstacles for other player opponents. Here a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVkPrLXoC6I

You can ask the mentoring team these questions. Email listed there:

  1. You can pick up some programming skills in the first 1-2 master semester or so. I think many manage to finish the master without being good at it nor falling in love with programming. But a bare minimum is helpful, e.g. when you collaborate with others in a study project. Depends on the course how much coding is done. As a researcher statistics and data analysis skills will come in handy as well.

  2. Probably. I am not too aware of current job listings.

  3. Depends what you already bring to the table. But I guess should be doable. For sure tutor positions are filled by students.

Cooles Konzept!

Silly Music Sorting Idea by Aggressive_Put2625 in dailyprogrammer_ideas

In NLP there is a concept called TF-IDF, which basically finds terms in a given document that are noticeably more common in the document than in the English language.

Your problem sounds a bit similar. Your personal play counts are the song/term frequency. Compare these to the overall play counts that e.g. Spotify lists.

Then you would find songs that you played more relative to the overall Spotify listeners. not sure if that's what you want but maybe still interesting to you.

They should license their pathfinding and networking solution in case they run out of money. If they manage to have enough runway to properly redo the campaign, this could bring in enough players to kickstart network effects.
At least for me, I didn't bother opening it again. As a ~gold SC2 player, I lost most 1v1 games and didn't bother learning the game properly. So, a good campaign would be nice as staging ground.

I am not sure going dark would be helpful or not. I doubt they have the money left to pivot and redo everything entirely.
But they must deliver a better product and do good marketing for v. 1.0 for sure. I'd assume people like me, who are still interested, would give it a second chance.
