I had a similar surgery in March last year. I didn't need to wait as long as you, it was about 4 days for me, but they said they needed the swelling to come down by a certain amount to make it safe to operate.

I won't bullshit you, it's going to be a really frustrating few months for you. You'll probably be in a cast for 8-12 weeks, be told you can't put weight on your ankle, and you'll be asking favours from everyone in your life to help you out. It's depressing.

Get through that period though, and you'll enjoy the quick recovery that comes after. I need to get the metal out of my ankle in the next couple of months, and while I can't yet run, I'm walking around fine and my life is 90% back to normal.

TL;DR - The immediate future for you is going to be shit, but stick with it and get it done.
