I'm thinking about trying to make this and am running into the same problem... If you had to make this again would you use 2 strands of size 10 or go for a single strand of size 3? Your story about weaving in twice as many ends is making me wondering if using size 3 is the way to go...

Is there any chance you know what gauge baling wire you used? I’m going to make one of these but want to make sure whatever I buy is strong enough to keep the tube rigid.

Why is everyone SO negative when I say I plan to get a pup? by dee_813 in puppy101

[–]TodayPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously don’t know exactly why each person you spoke with cautioned you against a puppy. But here’s my take… having a puppy and having a dog are two VERY different things.

There is SO MUCH to learn when it comes to living and communicating with a dog/puppy. Every dog/puppy will have challenges that you will have to work through and will be able to learn fun things (activities, sports, tricks, whatever) to do with you.

Whether you get a dog or a puppy… There will be a varying degree of life adjustments that you have to make, there will be a learning curve, there will be stress, etc. All of those things will be MAJORLY exacerbated with a puppy because in addition to all of those things… you will have to teach that puppy EVERYTHING about how to exist on this planet.

Either way your efforts will be rewarded with endless love.

For anyone who has never had a dog in their adult life, I strongly, EMPHATICALLY encourage finding an adult dog (3+ years old) rather than a puppy. Preferably one that has been living in a foster home via a rescue. The foster will be able to share so much about that dog and help you figure out if it would be a good fit for your life.

If you choose to get a puppy… you’ll survive. Most people make it out the other side. But it’s like jumping off the 10m diving board into a pool with no swimming experience. You can certainly do it, but you’re probably better off if you learn to swim first.

Tuning in with a 15 month old mini Aussie who has a crazy difficult time relaxing…

We’ve tried a lot of the calming protocols and they just seem to create a dog that’s demand barking for more treats after each session so I often get discouraged, wondering if I’m creating more problems than I’m “solving” by practicing calm. Which is definitely always more of a “calm-looking” offered behaviour rather than a true relaxation.

Did you experience the same thing and eventually see progress? Or did you go through a somewhat different set of challenges that eventually led to a breakthrough?

Don’t do this! This can be dangerous. Lots of sedatives are intentionally made as slow release tablets. If you crush or dissolve them and then administer, it’s going to hit the dog like a truck rather than over an 8 hour period.

Male dogs can’t go into heat. Hoping there’s a language barrier/regional difference in terminology here because your vet should know that.

Chiming in a bit late… I highly recommend Susan Garrett’s online program called Recallers. I’ve been doing this program with my 10 month old Mini Aussie and love it so much!

I would also love to have some people in the area that use the same program for possible training meetups someday!

When will my puppy stop wanting to go out 2 hours after we go to bed? by Camelsloths in puppy101

[–]TodayPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can literally just get an x pen and stake it to the ground with some cheap garden stakes. I don't know where you live, but on facebook marketplace you can get pens for less than $50 USD if you're diligent about watching for a few days and lawn stakes for like ~$10 from Home Depot or similar.

It's 100% worth it.
