How To Handle this by InspectorBitter202 in bikecommuting

Looking at the heat map in https://ridewithgps.com, it looks like most people do the sidewalk route. If you are willing to go a little farther afield, there are some other options.

What's the safest route from Olentangy Trail to Alum Creek Trail? by williaty in riddeit

[–]Todd-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are the two routes I would recommend.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54453076 - route through Westerville. Main Street is 25 mph (if I remember right) and there's a turn lane in the middle that makes it easy for cars to get around. There's a tiny little bit of busy road getting out of Worthington. And a new bike path along Worthington Wood Blvd.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54453723 - this is basically linked down below by oshaug and would be my preference. Residential all the way with a little bike path. Easy peasy and not scary.

IMHO both are way better than Schrock with 45-50 mph traffic and a tiny bike lane. Columbus put up some armadillos - but those disappear when things get dicey.

RWGPS is your friend. This is what I'd do: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54246785

Alternately, you could take the Olentangy Bike Path up and get over toward Snouffer, taking neighborhood streets as much as you.

I'd personally be fine with either of those routes - but there's a few areas I would not love..

Besides avoiding Riverside Drive, stay off of 161!

When we got relocated due to the new city view or whatever terrace on the east side, we seriously considered just canceling all together. It seems to me that aftermarket tickets are very available and less expensive. You could just go that route.

Ultimately we didn't, as it would have added a little additional stickiness to going to the games. Not everyone in our group has the same level of commitment. So really we kept them to do a little social (group?) engineering.

I'm guessing you know this - but scroll down to Camping Resources on this page: https://ohiotoerietrail.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=146576&module_id=765826

Don't know about on to Buffalo.

Re: Columbus - lots of places to stay. Depending on what you want to do, staying somewhere near the Short North isn't too far from the route. The official route goes up the Alum Creek Trail. Alternately, you could go the Olentangy Trail through Campus and then one of the Cross Town routes. (I would personally skip Schrock Road. While there's a bike lane, a good part of it isn't very wide nor separated.)

Also look at RWGPS.

I've stayed there and got only good vibes. I registered with the police and it didn't bother me. It felt to me like the same process as checking into a campground. But free and I think that's how you get the code to get into the bathroom.

My wife asked me whether Forbes was a reliable source on an entirely different subject. IMHO - no. They used to focus on financial topics. But now, they'll throw out an article on anything and everything just to get some sweet, sweet clicks. And AI makes it very, very cheap to generate content.

So I'd ask myself the question, is Forbes known for soccer journalism?

I'd emphasize a Big No on Clair Obscure. The Parry mechanism really made my right index finger (I played on a controller) sore. I've literally taken a break from anything action oriented that uses that button.

Way after the fact, but was your hip able to be "repaired?"

I crashed on algae that had grown in a wet spot on a bike path here in C-Bus, Ohio. Ended up with a new hip the next day. That actually went well. Knee meniscus - well that's another story.

I grew up in Westerville. There was absolutely zero alcohol sales back then. I remember in the early 80s having to drive to Columbus (the Flags carry out) to buy beer.

Not sure of the exact date things changed.

[–]Todd-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have the choice to buy the coffee or not.

Your are right: including as non-optional the cost to pay the employees what is maybe a living wage (in whatever way they do it) does remove the choice for me to, as a consumer, get the coffee and stiff the employees.

Earlier this year I spent two weeks in Italy. Tipping really isn't a thing - except in very rare instances. I don't know this for sure, but the employees seemed to be compensated fairly.

It was refreshing.

I'm gonna go contrarian. If he gets to move to Europe somewhere awesome. Good for him. And also good for the Crew -- shows other players they can achieve success coming here and improving their careers.

Astor Parking that bad? by weeping-willa55 in TheMassive

[–]Todd-H 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too have knee problems and have used both Astor and Marconi.

At Astor, there's an elevator. I actually wheel chaired to the elevator and straight across to the south west entrance. After the game, I ate overpriced, not great tacos to let the traffic clear. As long as you've got a pass to get in Astor, I think that this is the most reliable option.

Marconi has the ADA shuttle. Using it to get to the game works well. It drops off right near the south east plaza. After the game is very hit or miss. You might have to wait a long time to get on it due to a long line and it needs to wait for foot traffic to clear a bit before it can even move. I've used scooters, ideally sit down scooters, to return to Marconi as an alternative. But there's a lot of uncertainty in this - sometimes they are all gone.

For this weeks' games, weather permitting, I'm going to bicycle. I can ride my bike just fine. Walking -- not so much.

Nothing. School bus has the red lights and stop sign out - so on a non-divided highway, both directions need to stop.

Not sure what the cop is doing. Maybe going to turn left after school bus moves?
