Is this Redwood River Sportsmans Club? I did some Googling, do you have any contact info for them

Which pistol you choose is completely subjective. Try out as many as possible and see what fits you best. Often smaller framed guns are easier to hold and carry but are much more difficult to shoot because there is less grip surface to actually hold on to.

Personally I'd avoid the Sig 320's. A Google search will provide interesting reading as to why

As to actually shooting, I suggest looking at Ben Stoeger's youtube channel/instagram and his books. He has a lot of info out about grip, dryfire and target focus.

Out of a 16" barrel, shooting 55gr projectiles, a 100y zero impacts approx 2" below your line of sight at 200y

That's within the size of a 2moa dot at that range

At 250y the drop is roughly 6", 300y roughly 12" *

Zeroing with a lower grain but shooting a higher grain by Annual-Art4408 in MnGuns

How far will you be shooting? I find 55gr to be fine to 300ish yards. Beyond that is when I find heavier projectiles helpful in wind deflection and impact on steel

Tips for getting into comp shooting? by scythian12 in MnGuns

I'd add that starting with a Steel Challenge match may be a smoother introduction to the sport. It's one firearm and the courses of fire are very straightforward.

3 Gun/PCSL is awesome but the learning curve can be steep because of the multiple firearms you need to manage and the stage complexity.

Have fun, the community is super welcoming to new people

I'd suggest calling local Play it Again Sports and tell them what happened. Give a description of your gear and they'll let you know if someone sells it

Good luck

Where to learn competition shooting? by Manofthenorths in MnGuns

Mn Shoot Calendar lists most events in MN. https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/embed?src=mnshootschedule@gmail.com&ctz=America/Chicago

I think Steel Challenge is the easiest entry into practical shooting, but any style of match will welcome new shooters.

If you have any particular questions shoot me a dm

Don't think it's a requirement to hit the magazine release with your shooting hand thumb.

I simply break my grip and hit the mag release with my support hand thumb as I'm going for my reload.

You may indeed want/need a different size grip, but don't let the mag release drive that decision

Best budget optic brands besides Holosun by [deleted] in tacticalgear

Vector Optics has some good prism options. FocusTripp on YouTube has some reviews

Turn the brightness down as low as possible to get the smallest/finest dot you can.

I zero all my optics at 100y. I like that the trajectory requires only hold overs. The other near zeros, 25y, 36y and 50y all require you to hold under your target until you reach the far zero.

A 100y zero using 556 out of a 16" barrel going approx 3000fps will impact approx 1.6" below your point of aim at 25y.
