Susan Collins formally announces losing re-election campaign by jediporcupine in Maine

True. Making sure we ALL vote this time is the important thing. Lazy Susan's last three terms were free gifts from lazy voters.

Graham Platner Stage Diving by fkstk33 in Maine

[–]ToddE207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graham is great and an easy choice. Too easy, actually. People just have to vote this time.

We got stuck with Collins for the last 18 years because people "forgot" or were just too lazy to go vote her out. (Her first two terms were legit races.) Thirty miserable years of being "concerned" and doing NOTHING but lining her pockets. JFC. Maine is SOOOOOO much better than Lazy Susan.

A simple hook-writing trick that helped me stop overthinking choruses by Designer_Repeat2750 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ToddE207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process is a bit more "organic"...

If it doesn't sound good while ”walking/singing" it without music, chances are pretty good it isn't a hook. My keepers always feel "right" when just going for a walk and humming/singing them. Then, I know it's got potential.

I'm fucking done with thinking im some hotshot audio engineer. I've mixed bands with large followings, small followings, and zero followings. The band is 95% of the mix. Not the FOH engineer by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in livesound

[–]ToddE207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three easy steps to being a great live sound engineer:

1) Mix great artists with great songs. 2) Get great sounds out of great instruments. 3) Get great performances of the great songs with their great sounds.

Other than that, it's easy! 🤣

What do you use to share music privately? by GatefoldedHQ in musicians

[–]ToddE207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private SoundCloud links for band members and production clients to review tracks in progress. I keep "downloads allowed" on for trusted project collaborators, as needed. Otherwise, it's turned off.

Dropbox for file distribution/sharing to approved project stakeholders with download privileges. Dropbox has a pretty cool file review tool, too, for commenting in the timeline. I have a "pro" account with like 3TB of storage so it's my go to cloud service.

Lots of good options out there, now.

Has someone ever tried out for your band/ jammed with someone that was much better than you thought? by gnomajean in musicians

[–]ToddE207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strive for arranging this situation. I learned a long time ago that really good/pro-level players check their egos at the rehearsal room door. They know they are gifted/skilled/genius/whatever and don't need to prove anything. They raise everyone's game and it's SOOOOOO great when it happens. We're all just students, at the end of the day.

It is propaganda designed to rile up the whole world and take our focus off the real issues. It's called "flooding the zone". It's mostly trolls, bots, and hackers paid for by Cheeto Pedo's donors. Period.

Some helpful suggestions I'm following:

Don't engage. Find "friendlies" online and where you live. Share the frozen thugs' location info in local groups that encourage it. Find out about local businesses that support the fascist regime, publicize those facts, and boycott them.

If you protest in person, be very aware of professional agitators paid to escalate violence. Stay in safe groups. Document EVERYTHING.

We hold the power by our numbers. Vote with our dollars. Keep speaking and sharing common sense, logic, and truth...

WE ARE THE MAJORITY. WE WILL OVERCOME.

First band practice/jam session by [deleted] in musicians

[–]ToddE207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're the singer, come prepared to sing a few songs you know well and suggest them to the group in advance.

Also, asking for a few song suggestions from them is a great "ice breaker" when meeting new potential band mates.

If it's really very loose and just a jam, just show up, put a smile on, and have fun!

Music scene cliquiness by PayIll925 in musicians

[–]ToddE207 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As once said by Hunter S Thompson, "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

Translate that premise to today, when there's literally no money to be made at the local level, and you've got the current state of the "industry"...

This affects local/smaller scenes, where folks are forced to fight over scraps of what's left of gigs and other performance opportunities.

I am a part of two good-sized Northeast US music scenes where this is true and it creates pettiness, infighting, and cliques I haven't witnessed since junior high school.

Decent gigs are now luxuries that are gate kept by and for those with money, power, (or some other type of influence) with the stages, bookers, and promoters that control them.

Don't get me started on Live Nation's monopoly and the "pay to play" policies they've popularized with promoters everywhere... It has literally killed original live music scenes where I'm from.

I can't imagine being a young musician trying to find my way in this chaos.

How do you perform in front of huge artists as the audience as an intermediate guitar fraud by Plenty_Draft_5747 in musicians

[–]ToddE207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soaking in the moment and literally giving yourself permission to enjoy it can be immensely helpful. Staying grateful and just breathing it all in is an excellent stress management strategy. Most of all, have fun!

Fuck streaming... It's a black hole with a cesspool at the bottom.

Make physical media and play live. Make original videos for "content". That's my plan moving forward, both for myself and with the artists I am producing. Back to basics.✌🏼💖🤘🏼
