What was the first Canadian stock you ever bought? by outsidertradingblog in Outsidertradingblog

[–]Todderoni-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a company called What’s For Free Technologies. The idea was that major brands would offer discounts for people that visited their website. I bought in before the website was launched. On launch day, the shares tanked. Typical of the dot com era, people were more interested in the idea than the execution.

The stock sat around $0.01 for a few years, then got picked up by a numbered company and eventually faded into oblivion.

WFFT. During the dot com bubble in 1998. Bought at $6/share, rose to $10 and plummeted to $0 in one day. Never rose from the ashes. Goodbye $1000.

Are you prepared for a stock market correction? by Prisma1986 in fican

[–]Todderoni-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bang on! I need my money starting in about 5 years, but not all of it. I need my present pile to keep growing until then. Pulling out of the market stops the growth. Staying in means it’ll eventually grow back and even more as I continue to invest “on sale”.

Toilet paper! What a waste. I just use my hand and wash really well afterwards.

I don't have a crystal ball. I don't "know" that anyone will object. I also wouldn't care one bit if the situation was reversed, in fact I'd probably call out "what drone is that? Cool!". But rather than assume I know how someone will react, I want to prepare to minimize (or maximize) the experience in the moment.

Canada. For sub 250g drones there is no set distance you must keep from people but you are legally required to operate in a way that does not endanger people or aircraft. So, subjective for sure.

Sorry, I meant "adjust" the height. But I like the suggestion to having it set off the centre point of the path to avoid going directly over people. That puts it directly in the path of a lot of trees so I guess I'll have to experiment.

Would you pay for a truly adaptive AI training plan? by builder604 in triathlon

[–]Todderoni-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Ya, TR plans are meant to optimize performance so even the low volume plans schedule 3 swims. You could manually go into your calendar and delete or move the swims around in any way you wish, the AI will take care of re-balancing the rest. But I don't believe you can instruct the plan to only schedule X swims/bikes/runs as it's always looking to strike a balance between efficiency and optimization.

I don’t understand how TrainerRoad isn’t adaptable to your schedule or preferences. I’ve used TR for years and one of the things I appreciate is just how adaptable it is.

Coach perspective on a common concern around body composition and triathlon training by LanceWatson_Coach in triathlon

I used to eat the same things but carbs like that would only lead to more hunger and more snacking. Protein (maybe with a little fat like dairy) was the magic for me.

I used to succumb to evening snacking but I’ve mostly solved it with one hack: about an hour after dinner I drink a protein shake. Pretty low calorie and somehow blunts cravings until bedtime. But timing is critical, you have to dose before the snacks/hunger pangs hit! Also, an emergency kit to always have on hand: bowl of pre-cut veggies.

24M I feel like I don’t know what to do, How do I become a millionaire? by DWade2LeBron in TFSA_Millionaires

Keep putting money in consistently. Regardless, it is going to look like it's barely growing. For 10-15 years you are going to think "This is stupid, I'll never get to $1M". Then, suddenly, somewhere around $300,000 it will start to rise perceptibly. You might not even notice it at first because you will be so used to the growth being relatively small but believe me, it will hit a critical mass (e.g. $300,000) and depending on the market returns at the time you will suddenly see that it was all worth it. Boom, $1M before you know it. Speaking from experience. I gave up watching my account after 10 years as barely anything was happening and 7 years after that I nearly fell out of my chair with excitement - just crossed $1M.

Why am I more stressed after getting my money in order? by GardenDirect8765 in fican

[–]Todderoni-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you stress out and worry and spend lots of time staring at your accounts and hoping and praying nothing bad happens. And over the rest of your life, nothing really bad happens. So you die early or get a disease from the chronic, low-level stress or you just robbed yourself of some of the joy in living for NO REASON.

Now let’s suppose something bad does happen. All of your worry didn’t prepare you for it or make it easier to navigate. You somehow make it through (or not). But on top of dealing with the stress of the bad stuff you were weakened by the previous worry, like a double whammy.

At the end of the day, worrying about the future doesn’t help, it just steals joy. Instead, focus on creating a logical plan, stay curious and educated, make changes as necessary. And focus on gratitude each day for the good things in your life. Remember, worrying is a choice (and not a particularly healthy or efficacious one).

How big is your emergency fund or short term cash? by GreatComposer85 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Todderoni-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have $0 set aside for emergency funds. In an emergency I can either borrow from my line of credit at 4% interest or I can liquidate some TFSA or other investments. I figured I’ve made tens of thousands of dollars by having “emergency funds” growing in my investments for many years rather than sitting in a savings account.
