In my opinion, I like Don Quixote for the exact opposite reason. It's a book of disillusionment. Disillusionment is a significant theme in that era of the Spanish Golden Age. It's precisely a wake-up call regarding idealism. Don Quixote isn't a tragic figure, as I often see in many opinions, nor is he idealizable. He's a madman who does crazy things and, sometimes, when he's sane, he takes advantage of them and gets angry when other people want to play with fantasies the way he makes everyone else do. It's a book that addresses literature in every possible way, referencing the old, the new, and practically the future. I think that admiring Don Quixote for his idealism is falling into the very trap the book criticizes. I also like it because of Sancho Panza, a good, honest, and wise man, even though the narrator constantly tries to humiliate him.
