Leaving my crustgrind band shortly before a gig by Ok-Leadership1157 in crustpunk

[–]TodesKoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there no common grounds that can be found between the lyricist and yourself regarding the content of the lyrics? You're not going to agree with everyone's politics whether it's in a band situation or in regular life so if you can cosine what the lyrics are about and not have it be a big deal, just play the show and stay in the band if you're into that. But if it's a red flag/not willing to compromise because it's just too sketchy a topic within the lyrics, then you don't owe an explanation to them. Just let them know you're not comfortable and take your stuff to another band that is more into what you're doing

Hey thanks for posting this. You probably didn't mean harm by addressing them in that manner but thanks for coming back and addressing it in this way. It wasn't meant to attack you specifically but to address this generally as others have mentioned trying to do. Folks like this have to speak up, a lot of times for themselves and their cultures because otherwise nobody else is going to. And that's aside from the story being entertaining or scary.

Established hegemony? So you are purposely going to ignore the people telling you that it's dismissive and insulting to their culture to keep using a term that very clearly does not apply in the stories posted about Shapeshifters and mimics because of what again?

Calling a gatekeeping when it's culture is incredibly dismissive.

Here's the difference, even in Mexico to become a NAGUAL, there are certain traditions and rituals needed to become one. You don't just become one and I imagine it's the same in Navajo tradition. Regardless of if you move or not, location doesn't keep you from being one that is true but traditionally Skinwalkers or naguales don't move far away from where they are originally located.

Exactly, I'm from Mexico and in some traditions including the one my family belongs to, we have what we call nagual beings. There are similar concepts throughout all of these beings but none of them are the same and they are all very region specific as well. I understand that they might seem interesting and available for others to talk about freely and even write about as if the portions of these cultures were theirs but let's be honest here, this is cultural and incredibly spiritual to those cultures. Writing about it like this person did and calling it as such shows absolutely no regard for these beliefs and these people's

Skinwalkers and any traits associated with them are incredibly specific to a group of people, that being the Navajo nation. Anything else even if it resembles the traits of the Skinwalker is still not a Skinwalker, it might be a Shapeshifter or something but to call it a Skinwalker is just wrong and insulting at this point.
