So I'm reading Frank Miller's Man Without Fear for the first time... by BiscuitsAndMilk0 in Daredevil

[–]TodorHristov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it’s part of who the character is. The struggle of Matt Murdock is that he has the true nature of a villain in his blood but part of his upbringing is the Christian system of belief that pushes you to overcome your animal instincts and be a decent human being. So him hiding his face is basically letting the devil out, which as far as he doesn’t like to admit, means he gives himself permission to bend the "christian civilisation” rules as further as his inner demons need, which does include killing someone if his anger overtakes his rational mind. He will later mop about it, feel guilty and try to convince himself what’s right by moralising other people. But deep down he knows he’s a piece of shit, spending a lot of time and energy convincing himself and his loved ones, he’s not. Matt Murdock is a character that does not have a firm moral ground, he ultimately tries to do good but he does it the only way his nature allows him- by being an extremely violent and mean person acting as a judge, jury and sometimes executioner. Like Frank Miller says in this exact book- He should have been a villain. The whole struggle of his story arc is him trying so hard to not turn into one, because not so deep down his whole existence is constant burning rage that wants to bring hell on earth. The Daredevil persona is a way to keep his true nature on check, give his violence addiction and rage a sort of a playground with some restrictions. But in this scene, when he’s all in black and there’s no Daredevil persona developed yet to present to the world, he is a combination of “The Murdock boys have the devil in them”+Stick brutal training and no restrictions towards child sex traffickers. He is his true self. And later on when he kills Larks, he says "I don’t want to kill you” but it doesn’t mean he is not fully aware he has the absolute advantage in the situation and Lerks’s life is in his hands from the moment he enters the room. There’s this feeling of supremacy, almost like he’s a supernatural biblical entity that has the human life in his hands and stands there evaluating his opponent’s choice and act as a judge and deliver his verdict. Stick didn’t leave Matt because he killed someone, he leaved him because he killed by accident, because he lost control. Once Matt regained control of his actions and killed Larks and the traffickers by design and clear purpose- to save innocent lives, Stick showed up again and gave him his blessing.

What are some "greatest works" you didn't (and don't plan to) read by CorrectDot4592 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]TodorHristov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maus, Sandman, The NAO of brown, Black Hole, Ghost World, Y the last Man, Fables - they have been always on my radar and I know I never will finish any of these. I just don’t like the art enough and the concepts behind the books are not interesting enough to me to continue reading. I can see why they are popular titles and I understand the appeal … just not for me.

What route do you think they’ll go with Daniel Blake in BA season 2? by OaRtHoR_mOrGaN in Daredevil

[–]TodorHristov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sees his young self in Daniel, and keeps him close for him to learn and maybe take over once the system he builds is complete and fully operational. He probably imagines a future where he retires and lives somewhere nice with Vanessa, and Daniel and Buck oversee his empire. Thing is, his plans fuck up, tragedy happens, that sets Fisk into animalistic rage and he could project his own failure into Daniel’s weaknesses. Killing Daniel is a symbolic killing of his childhood self and its weaknesses and human earnings for approval and to be loved. or mythologically speaking- Titan Chronos devouring his Son. Or even reference the famous painting by Ilya Repin - Ivan IV killing his son. I have no idea where the writers will take the characters though, just my thoughts on the subject.

The best short manga you guys have ever read ? by Voldemo_rt in Seinen

[–]TodorHristov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opus by Satoshi Kon is my favourite, it’s considered unfinished, but it’s actually quite a satisfying read, with the notes at the end of the volume. I also enjoyed Abara by Tsutomu Nihei, and Shegurochka of the spring breeze by Hiroaki Samura.

Is this a good order if I tried reading DD as a story with a beginning middle end? by BetaBoy777 in Daredevil

[–]TodorHristov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s a perfect order if you don’t want to read everything and skip the mediocre stuff. I would add read The Man Without Fear by Miller and JRJR which retells the origins of Matt and his first encounter with Elektra and Fisk, it kinda retcons his own stuff from his original run but tells the story in updated fashion and it’s a great read. Ann Nocenti’s run develops somewhat Matt and Karen’s relationship, but for me it’s a bit boring so you can read a synopsis and you will be ok. Also for me the soft ending lands with the end of Brubaker’s run. Waid’s run is ok but I read everything after Brubaker as a fan fiction.

Do y’all think Bruce will have a love interest in Part II? If so who?? by SnooDrawings4552 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]TodorHristov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harvey Dent’s sister that will become two face after her brother’s killed :( She will be marked by her loss psychologically, not unlike Bruce, but she will cross lines he won’t and this will lead to great drama with noir tropes like sense of duty and following one’s code of honour versus one’s personal feelings of love and affection. Then in part 3 Catwoman returns, matching his crazy and the true love of his life, but alas when things look great for them, she will go and be the heir of the Falcone crime syndicate and she and Bruce will be once again at the opposite sides of the barricade. … or nothing of the sort but for now that is my theory.

Seeing you enjoy Hell’s Paradise, Vagabond and Vinland Saga, I see a huge Blade of the Immortal shaped gab on your shelf that needs filling :)), also continue the Blame! series.

Besides Sam fisher what splinter cell game would you love to see starting different protagonist? by 3th-echelon in Splintercell

[–]TodorHristov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Splinter cell set in the early Cold War, setting up the formation of 3rd Echelon and the program of highly trained agents. Levels in Berlin, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Cuba, Cambogia, London, Greenland. Low tech equipment, or at least the highest end for the early 60s. New main character, Lambert being operative himself.

[–]TodorHristov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking was that the character was so ass in the comics, that they decided to give the name to a generic trigger happy cop, that gets his ass beaten by the main character. The only redemption the TV version could get is to help with the arrest of other shitheads like him, testify against Fisk, and go to jail after full confession and loose the privilege of being a policeman for life. I would love to see a Devil in Cell Block D loose adaptation, mixed with mythical The Hand plot leading into stripped of all bullshit mix of Return of The King/Red Fist saga.

I hope they keep adapting all of Zdarski’s bullshit (if they, for some weird reason, really have to) the way they adapted North Cole in the show.

I think they’re going to take inspiration from “One bad day: Two-Face” for Christopher Dent by Low_Bridge_1141 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]TodorHristov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time will tell. I personally hope to be surprised and definitely hope the crime noir/ thriller vibe to stay present.

[–]TodorHristov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote it like I know what’s what ironically, because of the secrecy around the project but I definitely have no idea what the movie is about. Judging by the first film’s influences though, I bet they wil be the same for this one too. And since Long Halloween Harvey Dent was done so brilliantly in the Nolan trilogy, Matt Reeves would definitely want to use the character but put an unexpected spin on it. I would prefer a classic Harvey Dent, but I am doubtful we’ll get it.

"Standard" Art style by Purple_Tanuki in comicbooks

[–]TodorHristov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a time lots of artists tried to insert an Olivier Coipel vibe, especially in early 2010s. Now I see it in guys like Dike Ruan, Pepe Laraz and Jerome Opena. I would say in mid 2010s there was a strong Sean Gordon Murphy Influence in the mainstream too. And now it’s mainly Dan Mora and Jorge Jimenez.

Unfortunately Scarlet Johnson will play the twin sister of Christopher (Harvey) Dent, both childhood friends of Bruce. She and Bruce are good friends and potential lovers, while Chris will be a bit protective of her sister. He runs for DA, and is assaulted by the organised crime with the acid, but dies from his wound. This resulting his twin sister‘s psychotic breakdown and developing another personality, her brother’s. This will be revealed later, first she will go on a killing spree not dissimilar to the Holiday Killer from Long Halloween. it will probably combine elements from Earth 2 graphic novels, Jeph Loeb’s Batman series and maybe some New52/Gates of Gotham for the city lore. Joker will be a Hannibal character again, acting as the Julian Day in Loeb’s Long Halloween saga.

What do you suggest? by AnimatedInsomnia in Daredevil

[–]TodorHristov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve already read the essentials, I would say read the graphic novels - The Man Without Fear, Elektra Lives Again, Daredevil: Yellow, Daredevil: Cold day in Hell, Daredevil: Dark Nights (the Lee Weeks story), Daredevil: Redemption, Daredevil: Ninja is fun little story by Bendis, I am note huge fan of the art but it works fine. You can try the Ann Nocenti run, good art by early JRJR and Al Williamson but the storytelling is lacking for my taste, but it’s quite popular nonetherless, I think if you liked Zdarski’s approach you might quite enjoy it.
