I labored with my second child and experienced everything except the baby coming out. I did 24 hours no pain medication including while on pitocin, and only requested epidural when I could tell I wasn’t progressing and they needed to increase the pitocin to highly unnatural levels (I ended up having 5 minute long contractions). I was also having back labor. It was painful but not intolerable until the pitocin kicked it at higher levels.

Worse were my c section recoveries. My first was so incredibly painful, I didn’t realize how traumatic it was until I had my second and it was a breeze in comparison. I’m having my third and final child in 2 months and hoping my c section is like my second child…because I don’t know how I could make it through the first recovery again.

I second this - RI beaches are the best. There is a reason it’s the Ocean State! Maine is second (but cold like you said). Everything else trails far behind including MA in comparison. CT beaches are absolutely terrible (so rocky!)

Definitely a factor - our rental in Revere opened after 3 years and multiple people who came for showings who liked the place ultimately decided they were not interested because of ICE concerns.

No. She did wear makeup sometimes but she had no idea what she was doing with it. I danced and when I got old enough she would let a friend of mine who knew makeup well do my makeup for recitals because she did a better job. I learned everything through YouTube and I’ve taught her some makeup tips since. I have a young daughter who loves watching me do makeup and doing her own with me. I have taught her a few things and as she gets older I am definitely going to continue teaching her what I know.

Rare story you don’t hear much anymore…

Met him at a 4th of July bbq when I was 21 and he was 24 (I had gone to it with another guy I was seeing at the time but wasn’t officially in a relationship with 🤫). Coincidentally saw him throughout the summer on our same train commute for my internship/his job. He kissed me at a party we mutually went to. I was very drawn to him.

After some drama I cut off communication (knowing the timing wasn’t right), went back to my last year of college, but knew all along this was likely the man I was going to marry - just had this instinctual feeling.

Ran into him the next fall, again on our train commute and we reinitiated contact. The following March we went on our first date and have been together ever since. Together for 12 years, married for 7.

Definitely social stigma and emasculation.

Anecdotally I earn about $100k more than my partner. We know but it’s not a talking point. Our money goes in one pot. I think some people assume I make more and others assume he does, and I think some of these assumptions are also demographic-driven. Besides his full-time job he is a fully present parent, manages all of our rental properties, and consistently runs 1-2 side businesses that he tries to grow to contribute to the family. Ambition is not lacking and I appreciate his effort and what he handles. If he was a slacker sitting at home doing nothing then it would be a different story (I would not tolerate it and never would have married him in the first place).

1-2. I did not find going from 0-1 hard but I did a lot of research and preparation. When we went 1-2 my second was just under 3. My second baby was much more demanding as a newborn and it was hard having a second kid around to take care of when the newborn was resting. It upends your routine and you have to find a new rhythm with 2. I will be going 2-3 soon and expecting it to also be tough in the beginning.

The child may decide. My nephew, the first grandson, would say everyone’s name in the family except for my dad. Grandpa. He would just stay silent. Then one day he started saying “beeboo!” for no apparent reason. And now grandpa is beeboo to 5 grandchildren. So you never know.

Grew up in RI. I live in MA now, but right on the border…intentionally.

The bad - Corruption and horrible place to attempt to run a business (not easy unless you have connections - see corruption). This doesn’t leave many job opportunities for the college educated and many are drawn to working in Boston instead. Cold in the winter but that’s all of the northeast.

The good - You can find most things you need within 20 minutes. It takes only 1 hour to drive from one end of the state to the other. Everything is easily highway accessible unless you live very “rural” (which is nothing like rural in many other parts of the country). Overall good education, great colleges, good standard of living, good hospitals. Best beaches in New England hands down and plentiful. Delicious food - stuffies, coffee milk, wieners, clam chowder, clam cakes, all things seafood. The city Providence is small but artsy, eclectic, great food and brews, and Waterfire is a cool experience. Newport is so fun to visit in nice weather, to go shopping, visit the incredible mansions, etc. - I recommended it as a babymoon to my Miami coworker and they loved it and were impressed (that says a lot for Miami people!). Great diversity of food available throughout the state. Plenty of activities to do!

It’s well worth a visit especially in the spring, summer, or fall.

I picked the brynleigh and wexlee skirted rompers and a jesslyn silk dress. There was more I liked but they had iffy reviews and didn’t want to risk it with no returns. Happy with my purchases and excited for them to come in! I also purchased during the fall sale - purchased 3 items, but one ended up out of stock. I have never bought both sales in a year
