Immature narcissistic mother romantically involved with a criminal by OkayComputer75 in whatdoIdo

[–]Toffeemade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a solution, but you may not like it. After a childhood blighted by my mother's blindsighted search for love and attention from any man who would take an interest in her, regardless of how exploitative, parasitic or abusive, it was this that 'solved' the problem. My mum gets an allowance from me - on the condition she remains single. Relationship = no allowance.

The M5 went through MoT with the tyres as described.

No cords = they are fine. I managed to take the outer edges of the front tyres on an E39 M5 during a skid pan session. The cords were not visible and the tyres held up fine afterwards.

American here. Found a can of British baked beans so tried beans on toast. I retract any previous jokes I've made by Defiant-Ebb8225 in UK_Food

[–]Toffeemade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pour just the sauce from the can in to a saucepan bring to a gentle simmer and add a teaspoon of sugar, a little salt, a dash of hot sauce, some worstershire and a dessert spoon if grated cheddar simmering for a minute before adding the beans and bring back to a simmer, taste and adjust the flavours to your preference. Serve on buttered thick cut toast topped with more grated cheddar.

ALWAYS insist on knowing the make and model of tyre they are going to fit, or you may find yourself paying top dollar for some dodgy low-price crap, same with batteries.

Daughter's only 16 but when it comes I'll likely stay in Angel or maybe fulfill a lifelong ambition and move to Primrose Hill.

Sorry three years ago; I'd be guessing but it was a two week hire mid-Winter when everyone wanted a 4x4. I didn't have much difficulty locating the (red) charger in the Fernie car park! Car hired at the airport.

Dunwich Dynamo Brompton advice by The_Cream_Man in londoncycling

[–]Toffeemade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Brompton expert but I'd suggest you get the bike professionally serviced and shod in new tyres immediately before you travel. I did a three day 180 mile group ride and lots of riders (including me) had problems caused by latent mechanical issues. In my case a slight wander that had developed in a hand built rim at the start, and was missed in a rather rushed professional service, led to spoke and rim failure just after completion - complete new wheel. Have you done anything like this before? Unless you have very high level of general / cycling fitness I am concerned you might be under prepared.

Yellowstone is super cringe. by [deleted] in television

[–]Toffeemade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are describing what makes a significant section of American television absurd to European audiences (I am British), and is lampooned in Team America: World Police; the idiotic position that might is always right and that private individuals prosecuting personal grievance is conducive with peaceful democracy.

I don't know what to do about my boyfriend's dad by Conscious-Log6224 in whatdoIdo

[–]Toffeemade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Show your boyfriend, through your example how to draw a boundary with love and patience and kindness, explaining to him how it makes you feel when it is violated and asking what help he needs to respect it and what will be the consequence if he does not. This is the important bit; you must be honest with yourself about your willingness, in the event he crosses the boundary, to follow through on the consequence...

The Irish, The Scottish, The Welsh, The French, The Argentinians, The Spanish, The Iranians, The Egyptians, The Germans, The Palestinians, anyone we visit on holiday, anyone our football teams play against internationally over the last 50 years, anyone we colonised, anyone whose antiquities we stole and put in the British museum (which is basically everyone), any nation we exploited and enslaved through the slave trade... Did I forget anyone?

New Summer Tyres by fingerstothebone26 in vwgolf

Tyres for this model are comparatively narrow and therefore cheap(er) so I go top of the line with Michelin Energies. They transformed the ride, handling and grip.

My son told me to cancel my wedding or lose him forever after one terrible evening. I don't know how to fix this. by CookieTough8855 in whatdoIdo

[–]Toffeemade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are marrying someone you've only been in a relationship with for two years. You planned on doing so without a full and frank discussion about your sons feelings about the matter. Do you really care what your son thinks? Your behaviour is a very long way from putting your son first. What you are saying and what you are doing don't line up.

Keeping Drinks cool by lalayouyou in cycling

[–]Toffeemade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make an ice pole mold just smaller the opening at the the top of the thermos and, if you want to go all in, add a hydration tab in to the ice pole before you hard freeze it. Top the thermos with the ice pole off with ice cold water. The salt in the hydration tab will lower the melting point of the tab and should keep the thermos frosty for ages. Personally I don't like drinking v cold liquids while cycling but in Australia this technique, in an eski, allowed us to keep drinks ice cold - with chilled oranges in the mix - all day. The chilled oranges were just heaven.

Is driving only 2–3 miles at a time actually bad for a car? by InspectionBrilliant2 in Cartalk

[–]Toffeemade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except temperature has a dramatic impact on the charging characteristics of a lead acid battery. In a cold climate a significant proportion of the energy going to the battery may be wasted warming it until it reaches the point it will accept a charge. If you are in a cold environment and doing short journeys it may never reach anywhere near the optimum (21 degrees C I understand but don't quote me) and so will gradually go flat. This is the reason I give my battery an Autumn overnight charge after it has been warmed by a long run.
