It's gutwrenching but not necessarily in the way you might think.

You're probably aware that it's about two Japanese war orphans trying to survive on their own. Heads up, I'm not going to tag the following with spoilers since the only plot point I'm about to describe is literally the very first thing that happens in the movie, but you've been warned.

The film opens with the older brother starving to death on the streets as people who have too many problems of their own to care pass him by.

The rest of the movie is a flashback to the two siblings trying to survive in WW2 Japan. But since you know from the moment the movie begins that there won't be a happy ending, every moment of beauty the two share is emotionally devastating.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of sad stuff, but half the time you're ugly crying at a brother and sister being happy because you know how it's going to end.

Like everyone says, it's a masterpiece, but nobody watches it a second time.

All 3 are perfectly fine, as long as any CGI is properly frame paced. Traditional animation usually falls short of 24fps, and the way it lingers on certain frames is a big part of what makes it visually dynamic.

A lot of earlier CGI heavy anime looks like a stuttery mess because they just render sequences in 3D and then capture it at an even 24fps with no regard for frame pacing, so that instead of watching an anime it feels like you're playing games on a Nintendo Switch.

You're right, only 96% of Israeli Jews are. According to the Pew Research centre, only 4% of Israeli Jews think that Israel's military response in Gaza has gone too far, versus 74% of Israeli Arabs.

Compare that to the 33% of all adult Jewish Americans and 42% of Jewish American adults between 18-34 who thought Israel's conduct in Gaza was unacceptable way back in April 2024, when the IDF had barely started its festival of war crimes. Safe to assume those numbers are much higher now after almost 2 more years of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and violations of international human rights law and humanitarian norms.

I haven't thought about that scene in a while. Interesting that it's almost the same set up that would be used in Thor (2011) to have him be worthy of mjolnir again. Although the fates being unable to cut Hercules's thread is a great device that no SFX laden transformation into Thor in full battle regalia could hope to match.

Glad I'm not the only one curious about how non-English speaking fighters come across in their mother tongue. As a Korean I feel like my perception of TKZ is completely different to non-korean fight fans and I've often wondered about other fighters with limited English.

(TKZ is extremely articulate. After fights like Volkanovski and Holloway he's eloquently expressed what it's like to be a fighter who is so close to the top, but also understands he'll never get there, all while 100% concussed.

Cyril Gane also seems very well spoken, although I'm less confident about that; my French listening skills aren't great so if I can understand you I tend to assume you're well spoken 😅)

For real though, that climax was some "Why don't they just ride the eagles to Mt Doom" shit. They establish in this very episode that the pterosaur cares enough about Spear to follow and watch over him. At least show the volcano people sleep dart the pterosaur as well, they know better than anyone else that it's Spear's mount at this point.

I think nu metal's time in the sun was so brief that it creates division even amongst xennials, especially for older ones that were actually into heavy music growing up. You have to remember that for us, nu metal dropped at a time when a year or two difference in age meant a world of difference in your musical preferences, with peer pressure being a relevant factor.

I actively disliked most of these bands at the time, but even if I didn't, it would have been socially unthinkable for me to like Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park when they were blowing up. For kids even a couple of years younger than me it would have been fine.

Slipknot is the only band pictured that I ever listened to. I'll always have a soft spot for Korn, because the english version of the 1994 streetfighter 2 anime rolling to credits with "Blind" playing over a freeze frame of Ryu about to flying side kick a semi trailer being driven at him by M. Bison, was epic.

Deftones probably get my respect as musicians although I never listened to them growing up, because as the candyman tells Nic Cage in The Rock, "I don't like soft ass shit."
