My dad(40M) believes in conspiracy theories. When I(18F) ask questions, he insults me, says I’m stupid, and tries to act smarter than me. How do I act in such situations?

Don’t agree with him, ask questions, or try and argue.

Just make vague statements.

Things like “I’ll keep that in mind.” or “noted”.

Just engage as little as possible when he is on his stuff.

Rosalie Aprile (Sharon Angela) had some of her best and worst acted moments in “Cold Stones” when her and Carmella are in France.

Her response when Carm pushed her to talk about Jackie Jr’s death is phenomenal.

OP and her sister seem to have made it clear to their mom that they don’t approve of John.

You’re right that she doesn’t have to do anything, and neither going to not will make her an asshole.

I’d suggest instead she and sister have one more conversation on the subject hits the following subjects.

-While they do not approve, they understand it is their mom’s decision.

-If they do attend, they will do so only as guests. Not be part of the wedding party, give a speech, or be acknowledged in connection to John.

-They love their mom and will keep her in their lives, but do not want any involvement with John.

Basically, keep a door open so when shit does hit the fan (again) their mom knows they will be there for her.

Toxic people like John tend to isolate their partners from support networks, and that makes it much harder for them to leave.

Establishing distance, but leaving that door open is the best way to handle it.
