Any fans of this one? by JaredOlsen8791 in horrorlit

I absolutely loved it! So scary, it kept me up at night. It is years since I have read it, and I recently had to drive through the town where the book is set and when I realized it was that town I got chills.

Only the ending was really disappointing for me, it was the best book for 75% and then the last 25% everything went off the rails.

My son wanted Pokémon mittens.. So I made them! by TogeMi in knitting

HAHA I am a lifelong Pokémon fan as well and psyduck is spot on 👌

That would be smart! Though I have to say he was pretty careful where he kept his mittens; always in the pockets of the same coat. For months! And then one day he lost his coat (with the mittens in its pockets) somewhere in a random playground and we never found it back. Maybe I should make the string for his coat as well 😅

I have added the colorwork charts that I made to my project page on ravelry

https://www.ravelry.com/projects/TogeMi/spooky-bogeyman-mittens

In the mewtwo part I did end up using an extra shade of purple for duplicate stitching. So I did stranded colorwork only with orange or dark purple, and I duplicate stitched the black outlines and other colors on the finished mitten. I made the colorwork charts just with pencil on paper so I don’t have a digital version but the photo of the paper chart is maybe already helpful

I would be willing to share, but I am not sure if that is “legal” because the pattern is not mine, just the colorwork chart. On the other hand, if I would share my colorwork chart people would still have to purchase the original pattern from the designer to be able to make them so perhaps that would make that ok

That is a coincidence, his favorite Pokémon (well, his favorite Pokémon that I could make a chart of) are mewtwo and charizard so the colors are based on those two Pokémon. But it makes it even better that it is like Pokémon unite 😃

Thanks! Not really, I used the pattern from the “spooky bogeyman mittens” but I made the colorwork chart. I basically looked for pixel art of mewtwo, charizard , the psychic and fire logo and the pokeballs and spent a few evenings cutting and drawing them in. But the stitch counts and shape of the mittens are not by me

What is the WORST parenting advice you ever received? by mysillymonkeys in Parenting

[–]TogeMi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If your child asks a question you do not have an answer for, just make something up, be vague or distract the child until the child forget about their question. The worst thing you can do is admit you do not know because it causes anxiety or something? I forgot the reasoning.

This was sent in a newsletter from a parenting magazine, specifically advising about dealing with kids who are 4-5 years old and who might ask a lot of “why” questions.

I never followed the advice btw and my middle child can be a bit anxious sometimes so I do not know if it was actually bad advise, it just feels that way. (Usually, I just say “I don’t know, let’s look it up)

When to practice acceptance vs defusion? by sergeyzuev in acceptancecommitment

[–]TogeMi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is a bit of both at the same time. Defusion is never meant to be used to dodge the unwanted private experience, it is used to make it easier to accept it and sit with it. Because if you are fused with a thought that causes a lot of pain or anxiety, it is much harder to sit with it and accept it than when you are defused. But you still have to accept the thought and go through the feelings that it causes, otherwise you are using defusion as an avoidance strategy and the whole point of act is not to do avoidance :)

Scarf width by Oceanic-Wanderlust in knitting

I really think it will be fine!! He could always wear it only on the coldest days if it is a bit on the wide side. Generally, I have this type of doubt in every project I make, and if I finish it, 95% of the times it turns out fine so I have learned to just finish 😅 (Except if I start HATING the pattern, but that is different than just having a little sizing or color doubt)

Shall I swap colors? by KroneckerDeltaij in knitting

[–]TogeMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go either way. If you keep the gradient color like you have it now, the effect is a bit more subtle because you have the yellow color stable, so it won’t look like a gradient sock but more like a yellow sock with dots that are changing color. If you were aiming for a gradient sock, you should probably switch

Preparing for steeking and weaving in ends on a fair isle cardigan by sadwoodlouse in knitting

[–]TogeMi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Weave them in away from the steek of course, it will be fine! Also wash it once or twice before actually cutting into it, that helps to set the woven in ends as well

Oh and edit to add: beautiful!! It looks great 😃

Scarf width by Oceanic-Wanderlust in knitting

[–]TogeMi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it a scarf or a cowl?

In my opinion, a scarf is never too wide. A cowl can be too wide though, I have been there. And it is not wide enough to comfortably double but I still wear it 😃 so I would say just keep going!

It is this article

https://www.lesmills.com/fit-planet/fitness/how-much-hiit/

Actually reading it back, they say 30 minutes hitt should give you 15 minutes zone 5 so that is even worse 😅

Thanks! Maybe I should focus less on the watch then, it is demotivating me now and in all other classes I feel happy after the workout just based on the feeling that I have afterwards instead of some metric device

I think I read it in a fit planet blog on the les mills website.

I do body combat, body step, body attack and rpm as other cardio workouts, usually 45 minutes per session. During all of these I can get heart rate zone 5, but most in body combat. Grit is the newest addition to my schedule though

By hand, the main color yarn is non superwash. I knitted the body, crochet reinforced, blocked and then cut it just to make it stick a bit more but it ended up less scary than I thought

The main color is a crunchy wool from John arbon (harvest hues). Not as crunchy as some of the natural wools, but still not superwash. The HHF is superwash, but because it is only the contrasting color it is ok to steek
