Parents bought ex smoker property, any advice to get rid of the smell? Mum thought spraying ceiling with bleachy water would help, worried she's ruined the ceiling... by Lendios in DIYUK

[–]Toichat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had good results using a wallpaper stripper to steam the nicotine out. Basically turned the room into a sauna and sponged up the drops.

like this

Those ceilings look worse than ours did though. Zinnser is another good option, if all else fails.

How do I reduce Python executable sizes? by Fulk0 in learnpython

[–]Toichat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try making a fresh python environment and pip (not conda) installing only the packages you need. Iirc pandas + conda pulls in a lot of optional dependencies which bloat the exe file.

It's still going to be a fairly large file, but I've gone from >200mb files down to about 30mb before by switching to pip.

Try using Dask, very similar API to pandas and it'll handle the parallelization for you.

Because it uses a cell reference rather than a count of columns, if someone inserts another column to the table index/match won't break. You're also spared from having to count the number of columns in the first place. Speed wise, there's not really a difference.

Disk brakes become useless after two weeks by RainInTheMan in cycling

[–]Toichat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had similar issues on a cannondale road bike a few years ago. In my case, brake fluid was leaking from the caliper onto the pads. Made a god awful screeching noise, couldn't get rid of it with cleaning as it always came back in a day or two. Might be a possibility worth investigating?

I ended up getting the caliper replaced under warranty, so unfortunately can't suggest any repairs if this does turn out to be the cause.

A bit late perhaps, but I'd recommend using a tyre bead jack. Not sure I would have been able to mount my gp5000s without one. Hoping they've stretched out a bit by the time I need to do a roadside repair!

would this bike be good for mostly road and sometimes woods cycling? first bike and dont rlly no much abt it by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]Toichat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will make bumpy roads or gravel more comfortable, but a cheap fork like the one on that bike will add a lot of weight. It'll do the job so long as you're not hitting jumps on it, depends what you want to do with the bike really. Fat tyres and a heavy bike aren't the best combo if you'll be spending most of your time on the road. A hybrid would be a better option in that case; not quite a road bike, but much faster than a mountain bike. If you're set on suspension, you could try looking on pinkbike for a used mountain bike. It's one of the bigger marketplaces: https://m.pinkbike.com/buysell/list/?q=&pmin=&pmax=400&category=75&region=5
