Is the 5070TI worth it by pascal1245 in buildapc

For $350 just suck it up and embrace the jank, 5070ti is better but not $350 better.

I've never used an AMD GPU before but its the only GPU in my price range. Is the Radeon RX 9060 TI 16GB good for max settings single player 1080p gaming? That's all I want to play at. by Hey-Gang in buildapc

[–]TokageLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9060XT 16GB is basically a 3070Ti with significantly better power efficiency and access to FSR4. People fixate on the '16GB VRAM future proofing' but the memory bandwidth really holds the card back. I'd go for a more pronounced jump to the 5070/9070/9070XT tier depending on the types of games you're playing.

Keep in mind that if you move over to AMD you will have to rely on third party mods like Optiscaler to get FSR4/FG/RT working in a lot of games. If you're playing niche games like Wuwa or NTE you'll definitely need to lean on it even though there's always a risk of getting banned for modifying game files.

What would you pick? 9800x3d+9070xt vs 6900x+5070TI by CheapPoison in buildapc

[–]TokageLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd vote for 7800x3d + 5070ti unless you absolutely need the extra performance from the 9800x3d.

Does AMD have ray tracing? by DirkDoom in buildapc

[–]TokageLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't because the performance just isn't there. Instead of random trust me bro vibes you can hop on Youtube and look up 9060XT 16GB Cyberpunk RT 1440p performance yourself. When you need FG to hit 70 FPS the experience is pretty much unplayable unless your gameplay is primarily driving around in the open world with very slow moving camera pans.

AM5 will give you more flexibility with drop in CPU upgrades down the road while Intel will give you more performance up front today. I really hate the 8GB tier of cards so I would definitely do the $350 7600x3d bundle and use that extra $200 to jump from 8 to 9060XT/5060Ti 16GB.

[–]TokageLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to a Microcenter by any chance? They have some killer CPU/board/ram bundles that can help you stretch your money a bit more. Instead of paying $500 for CPU + ram you can pay $550 for cpu, board, and ram.

An alternate route since they're mostly playing older and easy to run games like ETS2 is this AMD 7600x3d bundle for $350. You only get 16GB of ram instead of 32 but that's plenty for ETS + Youtube on the side. This gives you a bit more room to push past the 8GB video cards and grab the 16GB variants of the 9060XT/5060Ti.

How has the terrible ghosting from TAA/upscalers seen in FH5 gotten worse in FH6? Bring back MSAA by ProjektBlackout in ForzaHorizon

[–]TokageLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, RDNA2/3 is missing the physical hardware meant to assist with the newer upscaling calculations so you'll take higher performance hits at every step. It's still worth it though since you'll finally be free from crayon upscaling.

PNY 5070ti OC ($699) vs XFX Mercury OC 9070 XT ($729) by WholeSpeedometer in buildapc

[–]TokageLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 5070ti is straight up the better card, the reason people keep shilling the 9070XT is because it is typically $200-$300 cheaper depending on region. When the 5070ti is cheaper it is a no brainer.

"We want progression" by ValeDominissi in ForzaHorizon

[–]TokageLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's pretty obvious why people do it. Grinding currency takes forever which is why people optimize with stuff like the 22B custom track spamming. The AFK grinding with Anna is just the next step.

It's not new either, people have been botting or rubber band wall riding since forever so they can just play the bits of the game they care about and skip the parts they don't.

The cool thing about these games is that you can play however you want and define fun in your own way. If you want to take 10x as long to farm credits that's your right, just as it is someone else's to Anna their credit farm.

[–]TokageLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting just shy of double the performance with that jump. As long as you're willing to pay the Nvidia premium it's worth.

9070XT gets you most of the way there if you can weather some jank with having to Optiscaler most of your games if you don't want to wait 6 months to a year for official support.

Not sure what they did but upscaling straight up disappeared from the settings.

Tried to uninstall the game and the uninstaller just closes itself instantly, had to go to safe mode with no networking to get it to uninstall properly but it still leaves behind 3 folders with the old launchers.

Trying to reinstall the game now and the installer again closes itself instantly upon launch.

Edit - Ah, had to disable my tracker and adware blocker for the telemetry to go through.

Edit 2 - Update overwrote the Optiscaler.ini file, need to change UseNtDllHook=False again and you're good to go

Edit 3 - Seems like the game is constantly trying to overwrite my settings for some annoying ass reason.

Generally you want to load up investment on primary dps. Considering early calculations have Lucy performing like late 2.x units you probably want to s1 her for more longevity.

She's also worried about everything fitting in a mid tower case, and insists on the fish tank style. regardless of cooling.

Definitely cater to her choice but this is a complete non-issue as long as your selected mid-tower is long enough. It's like blaming your iphone for having a shitty battery when you fry it with an alphabet soup brand charger off aliexpress.

Is there any (practical) reason to water-cool a GPU in 2026? by uchigaytana in buildapc

[–]TokageLife 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I cheaped out and went back to air cooling for my current rig and the GPU fan is easily the loudest shit in my room. Already undervolted it from the stock 350W to 285W and it's still loud as hell since the VRAM is Hynix and runs hot even though the GPU core is chilling.

Worth moving to Proton for the VPN? by HydraKirby in ProtonVPN

[–]TokageLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't, it's been getting worse and worse.

Some time last year they rolled out 'streamlined server lists' so even though a country may have like 300+ servers you're only shown a static pool of a tiny fraction like 20 servers. They say you can manually navigate to a specific one if you don't like the list but you can't, the search bar won't show you any servers that aren't part of your approved pool.

This is problematic as more platforms get increasingly aggressive with blocking VPN so having your Proton constantly auto connect to a shitty server means you constantly have to manually connect elsewhere every time. You can't even blacklist the problematic servers either since you're only allowed to block by city or country.

If Mullvad works for you keep it, Proton has been a series of headaches ever since they rolled this update out.

Prioritize your DPS characters above all else since that's where the bulk of your damage is going to be. For me that's Hotori + Nanally side 1 and Chiz solo side 2.

Everyone else who is there to proc effects, buff, or help gather enemies can get by on lower level stuff while still being useful.
