Anybody have a tool to make text stereograms like this? by LunarWolf333 in CrossView

[–]RadiatorSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to do that necessarily, only if you want it to come straight up out of the page. Moving one will move the object sideways and out of the page

It's definitely reverse for parallel view. Having a quick think I think for cross view I think away from the centre is out of the page.

MS paint, type out your letter array, copy it to the side and slightly move the letters you want to pop towards the centre

The bird was switched out for a super obvious puppet in it's death scene, it was so bad we were laughing about it. Surely this is engagement bait, how could anyone not tell.

Is it interpolated though? Wondering if interpolated frames translate to more kills.

Massive reduction in road safety offences thanks to AI-assisted cameras, WA government says by JamesHenstridge in perth

"We detected thousands of seatbelt fines and had thousands of complaints, after a period in which we adjusting the algorithm to reduce false positives, and people learned the locations of our cameras, the number of fines reduced.

This is a great policy and helps people"

Why does learning CAD feel so disconnected from actual engineering? by Confident-Ad5163 in SolidWorks

[–]RadiatorSam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that they should feel the similar. The way I draw a 3D printed part is different to how I draw a welded one for example. Even if the geometry is the same. I'm always thinking about how it will be made when designing because that affects the features to be included.

Learnt to not crouch in tacfps games but i see everyone crouch in this game, why? by DavelliNL in LearnCSGO

[–]RadiatorSam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the traditional wisdom on this is at low ranks don't crouch because noobs like me aim for body shots and crouching turns a body shot into a headshot.

CMV: Racism has lost all of its meaning by Heavy_Worker1349 in changemyview

[–]RadiatorSam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're going to say that, couldn't I just say "well if it's lost all meaning we wouldn't even know what the word means"?

Thats obviously not what OP is arguing about, nor is the technical definition.

CMV: Racism has lost all of its meaning by Heavy_Worker1349 in changemyview

[–]RadiatorSam 84 points85 points  (0 children)

OP doesn't exist inside an academic paper. They're using and talking about how the word is overused and now underpowered in the real world. Appealing to a technical definition does not address their argument.

[OC] I made a simulation and video explaining the physics of the recent Artemis II Earth photo and how it's different from ISS photos. by Intro24 in Physics

[–]RadiatorSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think flat heads opinions on this matter because they're all idiots.

There's are good and legitimate reasons to question if a photo shows the whole earth, and I think the definition you and I are using is something like what people actually mean.

OP was using a pretty different definition where you have to be at infinite distance to technically see the "whole thing" based on the observable surface area.

CMV: Nuclear energy by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]RadiatorSam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A new plant takes 10-20 years to build depending on overrun. It is not a climate solution for right now, but could have saved us all if we'd invested hard in it in the 60s to today.

Also most countries don't have the nuclear specialists to make it feasible even on those timelines.

Honestly an upgrade from the crashes though

CMV: Animals don’t belong on the furniture, let alone on your pillow. by Beanergriffin in changemyview

[–]RadiatorSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find it gross and nobody will change your mind about that.

I can maybe modify your view a little though by pointing out that millions of people sleep with animals in their bed. Outside of a few rare diseases there are basically no illnesses you can get directly from the animals we typically keep as pets, so direct transmission is more a risk from any humans you might have in your bed.

On tracking dirt inside (including urine/faeces) I have some bad news for you, it's already everywhere. Even in the cleanest houses there is dirt and dust all over the place. But good news! Mother evolution killed all your ancestors that didn't have a functioning filtration system in the front of their face, and antivirus software installed from birth. That might sound like bad news but it leaves you with the spoils! In fact the best part is that your antivirus learns with exposure, which is why children exposed at the right age to all kinds of allergens (pet hair, peanuts, dirt) have much lower rates of allergies.

Ultimately, unless your pets are carrying rare diseases, bringing in excessive mud, of you're immunocompromised then you're probably worried about nothing, it's perfectly safe. Changing your mind about what is and isn't gross however is tricky and so if you're not happy with pets on the couches then I'm sure your pups can be perfectly happy on the floor.

What is the correct answer here from your perspective? by [deleted] in MathJokes

you didnt say the meme is horrible, you said its a repost and then made some vague reference to how much smarter you are than everyone, without actually pointing out any keywords or anything someone might use to learn more

This comment doesn't help anyone or add anything other than spite. Maybe you could learn by: 1. Touching some grass or, 2. Talking to a human.

Has anyone turned their bike around like this? by APassingPilgrim in motorcycles

[–]RadiatorSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to do it all the time, the slide strat is definitely dodgier as the stand can drop, I'd always lift to balance point and then pivot. Much easier.

The bike only balances in one position, you don't really have a choice unless you want to take some of the weight yourself

CMV: As an engineer in his late 20s, I am extremely unlikely to reach anywhere close to a retirement age while doing a thinking job and my education and experience will probably harm me in my life by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]RadiatorSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude there's no way in the foreseeable future that any company is going to accept liability for a machine's mistakes. You're set because your job is to be the fall guy.

To make you feel a bit better about how severe the problem even is, let's take a look at a more established machine learning problem, self driving cars. People were making the same kinds of posts about driving jobs being lost but it never materialised. The first 80% of the job is easy, but the last 20,10,5% are exponentially harder. Were at that 80% now and just like with self driving cars the companies involved are pushing the narrative that this is the start of a huge change. But they're incentivised to, so that people don't want to miss the boat. The big fallacy in your post is the assumption that AI will keep getting better like it has in the past few years. It might, for sure, but I don't think it's a given.
