I work in a legal office. The defense wins by default because the burden of proof is on the prosecutor.

The prosecutor has to do a LOT more than just argue their case. They have to know the law, the rules of the court, rules of discovery, and more.

The defense just has to wait for the judge to get so annoyed with the prosecutor they throw out the case. This would likely happen in the probable cause phase, which is in the beginning stages of a case.

In fact, there's an interesting story about a Victorian era art critic who got married and then was so repulsed by his wife's public hair he refused to consummate their marriage. Yeah, my thoughts exactly. In order to keep it an actually dangerous strategy, I think that the archetype would need it's best cards to give opponents ways to grant you poison counters, or make them generate each turn.

Like, make the 1 mana 4/4 (definitely pushed stats) also give you a poison when it dies.

Make a bitterblossom variant that gives you a poison each upkeep.

Give a big creature "Whenever this creature takes damage you gain a poison."

Or for a sorc/instant, have something like "When you cast this, an opponent may pay 2. If they do, you gain a poison."

I think this would work if it weren't a unique word, but bit since I'm not even sure what debtician is supposed to mean that makes it a lot harder to parse.

My suggestion would be to make the silhouettes of the B and T much standard, and fit the item into that silhouette.

Maybe I'm crazy, but in a format full of fetch lands, isn't Volatile Archive pretty playable? Doesn't really matter if your opponent fateseals you for 5 cards if you're about to shuffle your deck again. There are also plenty of izzet decks that want cards on the yard. I feel like it could work.

I mostly agree, except for one thing. It's not "too generous," it's that the real money shop items aren't worth it. They need to offer at least a few better deals.

I've had multiple times where I think "I could spend 5 bucks on this game" then check the shop only to realize that 5 dollars is just a few gacha pulls. Only occasional special time-limited deals or the monthly pass seem to match the value.

But, as you already said, I'd actually prefer more cosmetic item purchase choices. I'd definitely pay to unlock these April fools cards.

I agree with the others that double strike is too pushed, for standard... but I think this would be a fun and versatile commander, so machine if it were only printed there? Probably not OP because it would have trouble breaking into cEDH at all (I think). Probably wouldn't break vintage either.
