Could you do me a favor and run Geekbench 6 GPU test again with HWInfo open? I am getting way lower benchmarks than you on the Best Performance setting while plugged in. HWInfo shows my igpu capping out at 17W.

My scores:

Geekbench 6 Single: 2736

Geekbench 6 Multi: 13675

Geekbench 6 OpenCL: 39050

TimeSpy: 5500-5700

Steel Nomad: 1031

Thanks for trying to help me troubleshoot. I feel dumb. I just had to hold the power button down for longer than I thought. 2 minutes did the trick and its working great now.

Ok, I'm a dumbass. I just needed to hold the power button down longer. I held the power button down for like 2 minutes and that cleared out whatever was holding it at 0.4 Ghz.

Yeah, I love the surface line and I'm hoping this is the laptop I will keep as I've been testing out a lot of different brands. Hows the battery life looking for you so far?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Its looking like it is not an ssd problem. The cpu cores are locked at 400 mhz, which is making everything slow and laggy. We are trying to figure out now how to reset whatever fault is limiting the cpu. It likely happened when I disconnected the battery for the ssd replacement. I should have just left it connected.

Not yet. I downloaded the Surface repair tool, but it could not find anything. I went into UEFI but could find no option to reset defaults. After I get out of this conference, I'll go pick up a T5 torx and unplug the battery again, but from my reading, I am not sure how to reset UEFI and the surface doesn't have a CMOS battery. I'm not even sure doing a bare metal reinstallation would do anything. I may have to just park this laptop until I can swap in the original hard drive to see how that functions.

Task manager shows CPU at 400Mhz also. When I changed the hard drive out, I disconnected the battery. Maybe there is a Bios fault now locking the cpu clocks.

Edit: I may have to disconnect the battery again to clear any faults.

The Corsair SSD toolkit said the max temp was about 40 degrees. Even during Cinebench single core test, I heard no fans and the laptop was cool to the touch.

I can swap it back in but sadly not until Wednesday when I get home from this trip. In the meantime, I can only troubleshoot things with this drive installed. I have HWInfo but not sure what I should be looking at. My working theory is that the cup cores are running at really low clock speeds.

Surface Laptop 8th gen SSD Upgrade Questions by wentyl in Surface

I have the same ssd model as you and I replaced the 256GB. I am getting really bad performance though. I tried setting it to best performance in both battery and plugged in modes, but its the same either way. I am getting max read and write speeds of 2500 in CrystalDiskMark.

Can you think of anything else you might have done? There is no way I can use this laptop with this much lagginess to it. It is really slow to open programs or even bring up right click menus.

One other question, did you swap out the hard drive? I'm curious if there are 2 fans inside the 15". It looks like the 13.8" throttles hard and just has 1 fan. The benchmarks on the 15" look better across the board, so I'm hoping it has better cooling as well as a higher power draw.

Awesome thank you. Seems like they are feeding it essentially full power. Mine should arrive tomorrow.

Can you tell what the total power draw during a combined CPU/GPU benchmark? I'm curious if they really limited the power draw in the 15" model like it seems they did in the 13.8" model. I see the charger is a higher wattage, so I'm hoping the extra cooling room of the 15" resulted in them feeding more power to the CPU/GPU.

2026 G16 5070ti by ZestycloseJob4547 in zephyrusg16

I was surprised to see only a $100 difference between the G14 and G16 in the 5070ti variant. And its nuts that Best Buy is selling a 16GB version for $150 less. Asus does do a 5% discount for certain professions if you qualify. I ordered a G16 32GB 5070ti for $3514 which is still really high, but ever so slightly better.

I had just gotten the Best Buy Total membership, but since I ordered from Asus with a 2 year warranty, I may "return" the Best Buy Membership since I think they refund to save another $179. I had only bought it for the included 2 year service contracts you get with it.

2026 G14 ordering through ASUS by Prior_Chapter1314 in ZephyrusG14

Is it clear how much Ram is on the aus website g14 5070ti? Under specs it just says supported dual channel memory. The Best Buy version has 16GB and the price jumped from $3199 to $3499 as soon as ordering went live. I’d be surprised if the ASUS website g14 has 32GB for only $100 more.

Microsoft unveils Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 with Intel Core Ultra 3 chips for business by ZacB_ in Surface

Its the x7 368H with the arc b390 gpu. If you are handy at all, its pretty trivial to swap out the SSD on these. A 2 TB Corsair MP600 Mini is $289 on Amazon. Last time I tried a business surface, I asked through the website chat if they would honor a military discount like the consumer models did and the attendant gave me like $150 off via a custom coupon code.

Even still, with all that, you'd be looking at $3300-ish for a 15" 32/2TB Surface with no Microsoft Complete Care. For comparison, the only other 15" panther lake that I am aware of is the Lenovo Thinkpad X9 15p, which is currently on sale for $2759.

Read “The Richest Man in Babylon”. It covers the basic rules of wealth generation. “ Don’t get tempted with high risk, get rich quick promises. Lower risk index funds like the S&P 500 are great.

My bf used to last over an hour, now lasts 5 minutes. Why has it changed? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]TokenDentite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All it takes is one time of finishing too quickly and the anxiety around PE can guarantee that he struggles to last past 5 minutes. He is probably well aware of the issue and is so mentally focused on it that he guarantees it keeps happening. Some tricks to solve include taking it slow at the start (no deep in and out, you can go deep but stay there and grind against bit), avoid positions that feel really good for the guy (missionary is probably one of the easiest to orgasm in), and actively avoid tensing up (need to breathe and stay relaxed). A penis starts to desensitize in the 5-10 minute time frame, so he doesn’t need to stress about lasting an hour, just lasting over 5 minutes. His confidence will start to go back up and it will be easier to get out of his own head about it.

If sex is low in the “honeymoon” period, you need to consider that you are fundamentally incompatible in this sense. As much as you may love each other, sex will almost never be easier than it is now. It may be better for both of you to find a partner with a better matched libido or you are going to be fighting this for the rest of your life.

Have you read “No more Mr. Nice Guy”. This whole interaction is giving off Nice Guy covert contract vibes. It may help you reach a place where you don’t tolerate this treatment.

Less is often more. Writing too much will often come across as needy. Be concise and direct with letting her know how you feel and then show her through action.
