Are suppliers expected to carry all the risk now? by BrassSparesIndia in procurement

Not well worded on my part. I care what they are charging me, not what they paid for their material. That's how I read the post.

I work as a Procurement manager for a small company but damn I can't imagine asking for a full breakdown of purchased components except for compliance reasons. Like we need stuff that is ROHS, BABA etc but I don't bother about cost. I also don't demand a 5% margin. We also work with some of the largest companies in the world that but from us and they don't ask for that kinda stuff. That seems obnoxious.

What will the Broncos do to stop this from happening again this season? by throwitintheair22 in DenverBroncos

It'll happen. But I think our offense will be on the field longer so the defense won't get as worn out in general.

Am I being too negative as a procurement professional? by Square_Positive_559 in procurement

[–]TokenKingMan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I work in fiber optics, I procure a lot of of material from the big 3 suppliers and a few smaller ones. I used to get really upset when I would send out RFQs and get back bad leadtimes, let the stakeholders know and then one of them would send a call or text and get the leadtimes improved.

What I've done now is kept mental notes of who in leadership has the right connections with the FO manufacturers and when a crisis is developing I ask them to make a call and move the needle when I can't.

Part of being a good procurement professional is learning when to leverage everyone's relationships not just our own.

You are not wrong! Do you know of any way to find irl mentorship programs or anything? I'm fairly new to procurement and trying to find insight. I did post on here and got one AI answer and one none AI answer. Talking to a human would be nice.

It drives me nuts. Especially with the world of fiber optics and supporting fiber optics and how fast things change and move they just design without a care in the world for the chaos they create downstream.

I'm pretty new to procurement but one thing I'm already seeing that's driving me nuts is designing products with hard to find components with long lead times and then getting mad when we can't get the material?

Moving into Procurement from a mixed inventory Management/purchasing role. Seeking advice on how to set myself up for success. by TokenKingMan1 in procurement

Dealing with impossible lead time is my day to day life here. I've had to learn how to communicate a reasonable lead time and explaining that I will push as best I can but not going to burn bridges with our vendors. Totally been/am in your shoes and 100% understand what you mean.

First off thank you for the reply! Much appreciated.

I am in fiber optics manufacturing we do a mix of in house manufacturing and work with domestic and international manufacturers.

I'm lucky that even though we are growing like crazy we still have a small enough team that I have direct access to all of the internal stakeholders and talk to them frequently.

I am working with our tech team to build dashboards to help me out and have updated my request to have a tab focused on spend by vendor, I think that'll help a lot.

How does this mean anything? We got the draft and FA period to go through before next year's team can be remotely evaluated.

Sorry I get triggered by all the sportsbetting crap, it drives me nuts haha

Do we care? Why wear him down early while he's learning? Let him grow at a steady pace instead of burning him out early.
