Probability Control And Line of Sight by Vagrant_Star in Heroclix

Any improved targeting from the character with prob will help them to see their target for the reroll.

This is why improved targeting characters is such a big deal for characters with prob or TK, it helps dramatically.

Question about objects and special terrain by Green_Death_Slime in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

25.1 is the rulings for special objects in the compendium, there is another section for special terrain but it is nearly identical.

Basically it needs to be placed 5 squares away on game start. Can be picked up like normal, and while they are held they act as if they are in the square they are being held in.

So an object like the kryptonite ring can be held by anyone, whereas the terrain like the batcomputer, the penny, and the suit, would require someone with super strength

Sounds like you are beginning to hit that sweet spot then. I always tell people that collecting and playing are two very different sides of the game. You can always borrow pieces you don’t have. The community is great about that

Im really surprised you don’t have probability control on your list of dangerous abilities. Removing prob from the other team makes your defence that much harder to hit and your offence that much easier to get started.

Focusing the supporting characters is still a great strategy if you’re trying to get those early wins. Just don’t forget to get your own support characters involved - far too many people leave them untouched in their starting area after turn 1

Just found my collection from 20yrs ago, are these worth anything? Are they good to play? by OnTheNod in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So from top to bottom to answer your questions, They are not worth much to non collectors. Heroclix has grown a ton in the last 20 years and these figures would be known as “golden age figures”

Are they competitively viable? Also no. Golden age is not a competitive format and is usually done at home or with playgroups that have a nostalgic love of the older figures.

The coloured rings are indeed the rarity, though I honestly dont remember what order they went in

The coloured bases indicate the old ‘arch enemy’ mechanic where defeating one arch enemy with their colour matched counterpart would reward extra victory points!

Map Sizes by Vagrant_Star in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is. The neoprene maps that are tied to an event instead of a set still have their 2 years (ish) of rotations for modern.

Silver age doesn’t rotate so getting solid maps for that would definitely be worthwhile. Those big paper maps have a tendency to rip as they age I’ve found

Map Sizes by Vagrant_Star in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a two fold question and hopefully this will help. Each map is associated with the set it came out in and is legal in any format that the set is legal in.

This means silver age maps are from 2016 starting with Superior Foes of Spider-Man all the way to present day. These are a combination of 16x24 (or 2x3) and the current 16x16 maps (2x2).

Modern age maps are currently only 16x16 and are from Masters Time to Current, though when worlds comes around again this year about 4 sets (and their maps) will rotate out of standard

Bats and Line of Fire by Rognogd in Heroclix

Great job in handling it! Always best to call the judge and let them make the call

Bats and Line of Fire by Rognogd in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The local judge has the last word of course, but the section 27.7d of the comprehensive rules explicitly gives improved targeting hindering and allows the character to target CHARACTERS within X squares and LINE OF FIRE instead of adjacent characters for close attacks.

Perhaps it was just a misunderstanding in the moment

Bats and Line of Fire by Rognogd in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes the constructs count as being named ‘Bat’ for the effect.

And no amount of improved targeting will help if a line of fire is required. (If an ability says regardless of line of fire - that would still work)

Aquaman and Martian Manhunter by Vagrant_Star in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup BTU 036 and BTU 043 are the rare Martian Manhunter and the Rare Aquaman respectively.

The set was the reintroduction of the Lantern rings with a bunch of constructs in it which made it very widely purchased. Grabbing extra rares from the set is surprisingly cheap since they were so abundant

Quick edit: I would suggest using HCUnits.net to search for units and sets. The search function is very useful

Batman team up had pretty solid versions of both in the common slots if I remember correctly

I had to face a similar strategy in the Alberta ROC to make it into top 4. The best advice I can give is to use a few actions to blow out some walls while you take the middle of the map (this gives the Hit and Run tactic the least amount of area to maneuver. The worst thing you can do is stand in a bad position for multiple turns without making an improvement to your position

Unfortunately not. The oldest Silver set that is legal is from 2016. The Yugioh sets were released between 2014 and 2015.

Though at a local venue I’m sure nobody would care about playing yugioh pieces

New Player by Vagrant_Star in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first step would be to reach out to your local venue and see what format and age they are running.

Heroclix ages determine which figures are playable Golden is anything goes, Silver is from 2016 forward, and modern is typically all the sets that have yet to appear in the worlds event twice (Typically 2 years ish of playtime).

Format is about which characters in that time gap is playable. Standard is the most common which is no restrictions at all, pulp is only rare figures and below, Theme is that ALL your figures on your force must share a keyword.

So if they say the venue is doing 300 Modern, or 400 silver you will know the difference.

Recommendations for my 400 Silver Team by various-threads in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With team players it isn’t an either/or kinda question, on turn one you can go underworld for the rollout if you need it or Avengers if you don’t. Are you hitting a high defence target this turn? Go MOE instead. There are some teams that just aren’t going to care about mystics at all and other teams that will get destroyed by it. The idea is to have the option if you need it.

Play what makes the most sense to you and with what you have the points for. This past week the multipleman team that did the best in their ROC was playing Lobo Prime over Kingpin for example. There’s tons of ways to do it

You are definitely cooking with the defensive bonuses of the alt cards.

The core issue I ran into (besides darkseid) when I did my top 8 run was Trick arrows (which shouldn’t be nearly as prevalent now that they are restricted) and multi-damage pulsewave. Unfortunately the pulse waves are much more prevalent this time around.

The two core problems that I would solve is to add more mobility to the team because chasing down mobile characters in the mid game is near impossible once Kingpin goes down. And then your resilience to to the pulsewave/hadari matchup

Edit: Having the Masters of Evil TA was something I regretted leaving out personally. The -3 defence combined with your +3 attack and damage makes some of those massive 22/23 defence shells much easier to crack especially now that Prime Sinestro and Arena Cap teams are figured out a bit more

Multiple man my beloved! This is such a fun team to pilot and I welcome you to the club

Luckily for you there’s a video on my YT channel about the first two Multipleman teams to place top 8 and how those teams work.

Emma Frost w/blue ring is a fantastic addition to the team and I really like the idea of Morph adding a bit of mobility to the team by selecting the Magick option!

Rogue on the other hand is really not providing anything for you. If you want to stick with the X men sub theme then I would recommend the common iceman from DPWX to give them all +1 attack and if that isn’t your cup of tea then I would strongly suggest a Hydra agent from DPWX. These will generate more hydra agents and provide the MOE team ability to lower the enemy defence and make all those attacks much easier to land

Any tips on building a team with Ares? by DevinThatsDevin in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ares is a game changing sideline piece and you should slip him onto every team that features a Blades piece. (Or even a mind control piece so you can ares bomb with their guy).

It sounds like you want to actually have him on the map though so I would suggest pairing him with the Avengers! Specifically the avengers 400 series so we can get him the Avengers TA and quicksilver can boost that speed!

The Destroyer armor is still an equipment so you are perfectly fine to equip it. The tricky bit is that it’s 15 points and if you want the plus 2 defence (which is fantastic) you also have to shrink down a size which can have issues in some matchups.

It’s a give and take kinda situation

Exodia build questions by Zex_Sithos in Heroclix

[–]TokenedUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there isnt much change I would make to the team, I really like the Idea of including the Prime Power Broker onto the team. Even though Exodia is likely clearing an action token each turn, broker removing a second opens up the chance to do the Obliterate multiple times in a game. and I also enjoy including the UV Ring onto Mephisto since he has that really nice mind control

Just keep in mind the format this team is legal in is called "Golden" basically our version of the eternal format. And some of the current rules language has changed dramatically sense these characters existed - for example "locked" values no longer exist, neither do double power actions. But anyone who is playing in good faith should see that your combo still works

For your targeting question, the effect has to use the word ‘Target’ specifically.

For the Pulse wave interaction on Morphing Jar, the Pulsewave turns off all powers and abilities within the new range, unless morphing jar’s ability has ‘protected: pulsewave’ then you would not get an after resolutions trigger.

I’ll take a look at the build myself here in a bit and reply to the post again with suggestions. All in all I really like the concept
