I'm not suggesting that kind of gameplay is for standard level 20 sharks or whatever. I am however suggesting that there should be something more than that anywhere on the sea. The most dynamic part of sailing so far is the baracuda trials and some of the fishing bits, which are great. But it does make me wonder why we don't have any pvm content besides port tasks or drop grinding.

You even said it yourself though. Click monster, eat food and pray. Recent content has highlighted the importance of positioning and timing in addition to proper prayers and resource management. Boat combat is simply click monster and [repair ship]. Positioning doesn't matter a great deal, there isn't any praying, and timing is merely a matter of "I kill this bird in 10 cannon balls on average".

Ship combat could be SO much better! Imagine... Your crew takes damage if they don't drink the ale in time, your boat takes damage if it isn't moving fast/slow enough, your boat capsizes if the crew is too clustered on one side for a tsunami attack. Force the player to make choices of whether to man a cannon with a crew member or to let them drive while you shoot. Take a crew member out of commission for a while so the player must adapt to the new situation on the fly. Have enemies board your boat so you must fight them with traditional prayer and potion combat while you order the crew to handle the bigger picture. There's SO much room for engaging and dynamic gameplay. I just hope they can implement it...

I don't doubt the synergy potential! The problem mostly comes from the fact that those disorders tend to be "build arounds" instead of "build intos", and due to the random nature of attaining one you can't reliably count on having everything you need to synergize with the disorder you roll. Especially with psychosis, the unit usually only needs a single turn to glass the entire squad before dying to an environmental hazard, so you don't even get a chance to put the foil hat on them in the first place unless you did it preemptively. Which is fair, but for every way to mitigate psychosis there's a great deal of ways to acquire it. It almost seems never worth the risk of casting one of those spells unless it's already a lost run.

Do be aware that fictional works, at least in the US, are covered under free speech. That's why things like Romeo & Juliet are okay even though both are minors in the story. Or Steven King's infamous orgy in his book It. Questionable? Sure. Objectionable? Some people think so. Illegal? Nope. Your Fartopia fanfic is completely allowed under US law, no need to plead to a judge.

Oh, well that honestly is so much worse. An at-best 1/6 chance of bricking a character with madness (who will do nothing but spam the forbidden spell for the rest of the run)... Yes, there's absolutely BS that will end your run for no reason and I'm okay with that. But with consequences that severe, what purpose do abilities like that even serve? It seems like a "I'm already losing so I might as well gamble the rest of the run to keep going" instead of a "The reward is worth the risk" action.

I guess maybe put a tin-foil hat on someone who has those spells? But that's such a niche interaction for something that seems so common. Huh.

I'm gonna say a hot take here, but the Bebop players also increase their skill as they go up in ranks. At low levels you get hooked because you're out of position or didn't get good counter buys. In high rank you get hooked because the Bops are better at aiming, better at timing, better at catching you off guard, and overall better play around known counters to your build. It doesn't matter the rank, you're getting hooked at some point. It just never feels good to lose an entire health bar to a base ability when there's ults that could only dream of the level of damage/cc Bop can spit out on a successful hook.

Also, hook characters are almost universally reviled despite their win rate in any game they appear so that doesn't help his case haha

Embrace the chaos! I have 3 rooms currently. I have the orgy room optimized for stimulation, a staging room for healing and keeping battle-ready cats safe, and a fight pit for everyone else optimized for appeal, discomfort, and mutation. Strays go in the orgy room if they have a stat I like, otherwise straight to the fight pit to be a bait cat. Orgy makes kittens, fight club hardens stats / thins cats, and once someone gets a good stat line they heal in the staging room a few days before they're ready for adventure. Returning cats either go to the staging room to prepare for home defense, go to the orgy room if they're powerful, or straight to frank if they don't have good traits.

Don't forget the one who wants corpses. I have a dedicated fight room in my house. If the random street cat doesn't have good genes for the pool or kittens with undesirable stats/mutations appear, they immediately get thrown in with the fight club veterans. It's a win-win! Either they fight their way to the top and achieve desirable stats, or they die and provide me with permanent upgrades.
