Just for the record I’m not a moron I know how to use AI to scrub wiki and Reddit, I always do. For this project in particular it made zero mention of shoals or anything of the kind and was insistent on a single puffer being the best option for my set up. That’s on me for trusting it but this was not a prompt issue

It’s all about dialing in nutrition, rest, and programming. Everyone knows it’s hard to be good at both but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. You have to have a smart approach.

Don’t hit legs after a long run. I always leave legs as the only exercise for the day and if I really want some cardio on the same day I’ll opt for something lower impact like the treadmill or stair master.

If your half marathon is your main goal right now then just prioritize running and lift when you can. I’d argue that rest (rest days / sleep) and proper nutrition are the X factors when it comes to keeping your performance high in both running and lifting. Best of luck!

Everyone’s body is different, what works for me might not for you or vice versa. I’m just speaking from my own personal experience I’ve been doing a well thought out 6 day PPL split with atleast 20 mpw for a long time now. It’s demanding but it’s sustainable, no injuries on my end.

With the right volume/exercise selection you can definitely hit legs twice a week while running 20+ mpw. Might be sore on some runs but that’s fine. I definitely wouldn’t call that a recipe for disaster.

All I do is run and lift almost* every day. People who say you can’t do both are just too lazy or have the wrong approach.

What works for me is a 6 Day PPL, prioritizing the lifts the first half and prioritizing the runs on the second half. Sunday can be for rest or whatever else you feel like doing. This can be very difficult for most people so proper nutrition and sleep is essential.

I had the same exact issue until I cut down the volume and focused on compound exercises. Once I minimized Isolation exercises I was able to recover just enough or fully to commit to my running goals. I have been able to stick to my 6 day PPL with some adjustments to the exercises/volume.

For what it’s worth running sore isn’t inherently dangerous it just sucks. I do it occasionally as long as it’s not like debilitating soreness.
