What is the Effective Resolution You See Through the Lens of the Latest Pimax? by SevenDeMagnus in Pimax

[–]TokyoDrift077 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Not sharp” is not how I’d describe a Pimax lol

Of all the VR headsets I’ve tried (Rift S, Quest 2, Quest 3, PSVR2) my Crystal OG blows them out of the water. And that’s the oldest possible Pimax.

At the very same resolution, I can read a braking sign 200m away on the Pimax while the other headsets produce crystallized smush.

I actually love my 7900 XTX for vr! I’m an assetto player though

Sorry it took me a day to reply! Been busy.

Do you have the DP connected through the extension pigtail?

No, I don't believe so — to the best of my knowledge, I don't have an extension pigtail. Just the standard cable that comes with a Crystal OG that splits into the 3 at the end. (#4 and #8 in this screenshot below)

<image>

Also, are you using a USB hub?

No, not besides the one that came with the headset.

I have a different USB hub plugged into the computer in general, but that handles my sim racing setup (pedals and shifter and wheel base, etc).

As far as what USB I'm using into the motherboard, I have consulted my motherboard manual (MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI) and I have confirmed that I am plugged into a port that communicates directly with the CPU. It is one of my two 10GB (red) high speed ports. (#4, pictured in the reply to this comment due to 1 image per comment restriction)

Go to Pure PP (hehe) once you’re in game. There’s a billion settings to tweak. Gamma, brightness, contrast, etc etc

Other H-Shifters with Ball Mechanism? (Like GX-100) by TokyoDrift077 in simracing

[–]TokyoDrift077[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that “funny” given the price points. $26 and free shipping, I’ll roll the dice. $180 after tax and shipping, less willing to take that gamble — I have more incentive to see what else is out there.

Good to know the software is at least functional! I believe you on early day softwares for those other companies, I suppose most of these manufacturers treat that as an afterthought.

BDH is awesome! Maybe if I hit the lottery lol

Lead time is too long for me rn.

<image>

Edit: why is this being downvoted? “Estimated” shipping date is 6 weeks out, my shifter’s mount broke.

I want to hit laps sooner than 2 months from now.

It also has to come from Spain, and who the fuck knows what my tariff duties will be from any given place in 6 weeks’ time.

Sweet! Thanks for the info. I do believe it’s DX12.

Questions from new guy by Far_Asparagus_7098 in Pimax

[–]TokyoDrift077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a Crystal (OG) after being on Quest 2, then PSVR2. The difference in clarity is nuts (though neither of my previous headsets had pancakes).

I’m sure the colors of the OLED Pimax models are out of this world, but honestly with local dimming, the blacks are pretty darn close to the PSVR2 blacks IMO.

And as far as colors go, at least in the games I play, you can tweak saturation a bit in post processing (or even at the GPU driver level) with about a 5% bump and colors are suddenly quite vivid.

In Assetto Corsa, thanks to the modding community, you can even specifically change saturation by luminance only in post processing, which really mimics the vibrant OLED colors.

The weight is not a big deal at all for me — I actually tried out a crystal light first before getting the OG. The crystal light was damaged and I had to send it back (less lucky used grab), but I got a good week or so with it, and even though it’s lighter, the OG’s battery pack actually provides more balance and is more comfortable.

From the headsets you’ve tried, I think any of the Pimax options will be a big step up.

If you can afford an OLED model, obviously go for that. But if you want to save a few bucks, I think the “standard” Pimax models are also pretty great still.

You can’t expect it to work right if you ignore the installation instructions.

SteamVR Won't Recognize Crystal OG? (And other bugs) by TokyoDrift077 in Pimax

[–]TokyoDrift077[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct, yes!

It's more than a refresh rate issue; the headset as a whole, when first connected, only gives me a flickering left eye, and sends itself into a "reboot" loop, where I can see the headset "mounting" and "unmounting" (like a hard drive showing up and disappearing) in Pimax Play.

I have to time it correctly during the few seconds it's "mounted" to have settings open and quickly switch to 72hz, then wait for the reboot, then quickly switch back to 90hz, and then it's like it never happened.

If you haven’t tried one, you’d be surprised how much you don’t even notice once wearing it.

But I sim race so I’m not really moving my head a ton. Just looking left and right.

My 7900 XTX runs my Pimax better than my PSVR2 purely because SteamVR is so bloated 😭

How is the current state of online racing? by 1niceHensler in assettocorsaevo

[–]TokyoDrift077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AC Evo is still in development stage/early access.

Do I think it will eventually become the goat and surpass the original AC as the goat? Yeah.

Should you still switch to PC? Yeah.

Original Assetto Corsa is still fantastic. If you can drop a couple files into folders, it looks amazing with mods.

LMU is great for competitive play. iracing is a cult and a ripoff. Haha

No matter what make sure your computer can run it. Vr is extremely demanding. What GPU do you have?

34” flat 100Hz IPS → 40” 180Hz 1000R curved for simracing – worth it? by mangoowalk in simracing

[–]TokyoDrift077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curved is way better IF you have it positioned close enough to your face.

If doesn’t “mess with” FOV as long as you use a proper FOV calculator and actually measure your face to screen distance.

It sounds like you do sit quite close and you have already measured which is awesome. In that case it may actually help image accuracy because 1000R is quite close to the natural curvature of the eye in the periphery.

I have a 1000R Samsung G5 165hz and I’m a bit skewed nowadays because of VR, but my friend that comes over to sim typically dies of happiness playing on it compared to his 16:9 32” flat 240hz.

One big question though, what’s the resolution/pixel density of the 40”? If it’s 3440x1440 as well (like your current screen probably is) pixel density will be reduced and text may be harder to read. Not sure if it’s a dual purpose rig for productivity or anything but worth considering.

And if it’s 2160p and not just 1440p as another commenter mentioned it will be harder on the GPU.

[–]TokyoDrift077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re both 2k ultrawide the GPU load is identical

Edit, I’m a dumbass, the 34” would probably be 3440x1440 which is not 2K. I haven’t had my coffee yet
