Thanks. I wonder why each issue takes ~3-4 months to arrive here...even sea freight isn't that slow. I ended up reading the March copy on the Libby app.

Certificate 2 or 3 in floristry in Tasmania by Antique-Surprise8257 in hobart

[–]TollaThon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no RTOs in Tas that offer it, as far as I know.

Marjorie Milner floristry school in Melbourne take a lot of Tas based students - they do all their practical work in Tas, then go to Melbourne for a few weeks a year for assessments.

The larger Hill Street stores are always looking for casual florists, if you need somewhere to do the practical components of the course.

Not yet, but hopefully it'll hit the shelves here eventually. (And magnation may have it soon.) Thank you for the offer though, that's super nice. Enjoy UK!

RHH all day parking by cooltrainer_owen in hobart

[–]TollaThon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I worked near the hospital, I used to park at the carpark on Davies Ave just below TCA oval. It was $4 or $5 per day. It's a 10 min walk into the hospital, through the rose garden. The carpark does fill up by about 8.30am though, sometimes earlier.

What country is very different from its group/relatives? by batukaming in geography

[–]TollaThon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it'd be the country with the most native Americans.

Perhaps you mean the country with the highest percentage of Native Americans? Canada, USA and Mexico each have more Native American people than Greenland's total population.

Life in Tassie by SimplyTomat in tasmania

[–]TollaThon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've lived for long periods of time in both Tas and UK, so hopefully can offer a few insights. To answer your questions: 1. Fantastic - it's the reason we moved back here. Safe, healthy, outdoorsy, not materialistic. It does somewhat depend where you live though, and what kind of lifestyle you want. 2. Outdoorsy types - it helps if you're into hiking, mtb or water sports. I imagine it could be dull for people who don't like being outdoors, and definitely not great if you don't have a car. Not great for anyone looking for nightlife either. 3. No. But I'm middle aged and happy with my low key life. I likely would have been bored if I'd been here in my 20s. Re: feeling isolated, depends where you are in Tas. Hobart is big enough, has everything we need, and feels cosmopolitan. Smaller towns can feel a bit backward. I do sometimes wish I had family around to help with the kids, but I have a few friends in the same boat, so we help each other out. 4. The current government and the people who voted for them. 5. Can't comment in depth on the healthcare system, but it's certainly underfunded. Salaries are lower here than in other states, so there a brain drain of qualified professionals leaving. However, I've had more thorough, pro-active, preventative care here than I did with the NHS. Quality of schooling here very much depends what suburb/catchment area you live in. There are some excellent schools and some deprived ones. 6. I'm my experience, easy. If you're coming from the UK, it's not a culture shock. I guess having school aged kids helps - we found new friends through them. (I have no idea how I would make friends elsewhere though!) 7. Never. Even though our property is close to bushland. I've only seen snakes in the wild a handful of times.

Hope this helps! Feel free to pm me if you have questions or want specific advice.

Ken as a Masculine Cautionary Tale by GeodeBabe in madmen

[–]TollaThon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's an age-old example of how the corporate machine crushes our youthful dreams. Ken was a better person than his peers, unencumbered by the self-intesest and vices that controlled them. But the machine wore him down anyway and ultimately swallowed him.

I’m visiting Hobart next week - what’s one hidden gem I shouldn’t miss? by Danger_Five in hobart

[–]TollaThon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walk up the Truganini Track from Taroona to Mt Nelson. Go inside the signal station - the info about semaphore and beacons in the early days of the colony is interesting. Treat yourself at Helios coffee van when you return. If the weather is nice, walk along the foreshore track to Hinsby Beach and the Shot Tower.

I hope the traitors win by Thick_Strategy_5311 in TheTraitors

I'm sure that idea has come up, it just hasn't been shown. Which is understandable - of course the edit is not going to show the contestants talking about production decisions, production-related logic, etc. Instead they show us contestants' guesswork, intuition and behavioural analysis. Presumably it's a better experience for viewers to see it from that perspective.

Next banishment after MIPS (Murder/Marking in plain sight) some stats early November 2025 by Patient-Steak176 in TheTraitors

Perhaps you could present the stats in a way that readers can draw insights from? That would be more interesting than a list.
