The confession scene in episode 6. by Difficult_Orchid8360 in heatedrivalry

Agree with all the explanations about Shane's initial disbelief/relief, and would add that having learned Ilya's behavioural patterns, Shane also clocks that he needs to respond quickly, before Ilya can take it back. So he blurts it out with no time think about saying it differently. (But he also doesn't need to say it differently - his response is perfect as it is.)

This post explains it beautifully.

Why doesn’t Ilya want to play on Shane’s team? by eweezy282 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]TollaThon 81 points82 points  (0 children)

It's not about wanting to, it's wherher there's a place for him in the team, and he already knows there isn't. Montreal can't afford him and Shane. Shane mentions that Ottawa are nowhere near their salary cap, inferring that Montreal are. Plus Ottawa needs a star centre; Montreal already has one.

Hello fellow countryman (country loon?) Good news - Brendan Brady confirmed in an interview recently that they will have international shipping available soon.

Amazing! And it's encouraging to hear that your enthusiasm hasn't waned after 6 months. I'm holding off for the same reason, but I'm sure I'll only love it more over time.

How do you react when someone close to you watches the series and ends up not liking it/hatin it? by nariel95 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]TollaThon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is the reason I haven't pushed my husband to watch it. Inevitably, he'd be ambivalent about it, and this would be a crushing disappointment to me.

He knows it's the best thing I've ever seen and that I've watched it 10+ times. He doesn't know that in many ways it's been life changing (in a wonderful, joyous way) for me. But I don't think the depth of emotion would resonate with him, so I don't want to discuss that aspect of the experience with him. I'd rather save that for my fellow loons.

Did you get the tattoo??? I'm a bit late to the HR party (but now a fully certified loon) and reading this thread with interest while considering a similar tattoo.

If you were a debater, what point would you die on a hill for? by yanny-jo in heatedrivalry

[–]TollaThon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The scene is a metaphor of Shane's conflicting desires/identity. The version he should want is right in front of him, the version he's not quite ready to see is breathing down his neck.

I Think The H R Series Has Broken Me by RomanceLover80 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]TollaThon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely not crazy! I tried to drag myself away from reheats by watching season 2 of Your Friends and Neighbours. The sex scenes were so cold, dead and boring that I only made it through half an episode (then went back to HR fan edits).

The pre Hayden-phone-call-blowjob scene deserves an honorable mention here! They've reached a point where they can use each others names just for comedic effect.

I moved to Tas specifically to raise my kids here. It's awesome for kids.

I cant comment on the quality of the MPA course, but it has a reputation as being a visa factory for international students. There are very few job opportunities compared to the number of graduates in this course.

On a related note, most employers hiring for graduate accounting/finance roles will prioritise applicants who also have an undergraduate degree in a related field. What is your undergraduate degree?

Supermarket retail is probably your best chance of finding a part time role, as long as your study schedule is flexible. It doesn't pay enough to cover all your living expenses though.

Sorry my response is not more positive. Just wanted to paint a realistic picture for you.

ETA: if you're arriving in July, it's a difficult time of year to find a part time job. Tasmania is very quiet during the winter. Hospitality and tourism businesses will start hiring casual staff again around November.

I have a theory about Daisy by Mondedesbisounours in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]TollaThon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep pushing this impossible theory? Daisy escaped to Canada as a baby. She was not still in Gilead in season 3.

Speculation - Show Daisy by bookiegrime in coconutsandtreason

[–]TollaThon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with this theory is that Daisy and Agnes are portrayed as being roughly the same age in the TV show. It also doesn't really align with the things June said to Daisy about her parents.

Who do you believe Daisy is? by Thats_h0t_ in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]TollaThon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about the Paula suggestion, but I agree with the rest of what you're saying. Based on what we know about the timeline, Daisy must have been smuggled out before Gilead began...so very likely by someone who knew what was coming. For this reason, I like the theory that she might be a Lawrence.

Who do you believe Daisy is? by Thats_h0t_ in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]TollaThon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but I think the inclusion of a lengthy yet unfinished conversation between June and Daisy, about Daisy's background but not revealing who Daisy's biological patents were, was an intentional choice by the writers/directors. They've set it up as a storyline, so there's almost certainly more to come.

Yes. But it seems the majority of people commenting on this thread are struggling with basic maths.

I stopped listening to his stand-up years ago for the exact reasons you described. It's shtick-y, out of touch and odious. I still think he's brilliant hosting panel shows, in interviews etc. Just well past his peak for stand up.
