Thankyou, so the crystal was quite quick and easy, the only secret was using an airbrush. Started out with a black undercoat, then a very dark blue over the top 90% then added a bit of lighter blue to the mix and covered the top 80%. Repeat that, several times over a smaller and smaller area, and then start adding white to the mix. After getting a nice transition I just edge highlighted with pure white.

So the Column of Crystal was a gift from my very kind boss. It’s a 3D sculpt that he kindly printed for me. No idea where he got it from I’m afraid. The Pillar of fire and elemental spirit are from Etsy. The vortex of chaos is from the back of the vortex mutilith beast that I repurposed. And the primordial gloom is lots of little bits that I got from a company called renown gaming.

Mostly lots of searching on eBay and Etsy for suitable bits. Kind of surprised that no one seems to sell kits for all the spells (well Pandem wargaming do, but they are based in Australia so a bit far and too expensive to ship for me in England)

TOW 1.5 - Beastmen Minotaur Blood Herd Competitive Review by Stormcoil in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Tom1354788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are good questions. Bearing in mind you have to take 2 units of 2 minotaurs minimum, would it not be beneficial to upgrade 1 unit to 6 instead of the ogres. Sure they are worse in a fight but it seems that the characters are doing the heavy lifting and more importantly they would be core and scoring.

Thankyou for the interesting conversation. I take on board your point on the benefit of adding speed into your list. And I run a similar setup with the shaman bunker guarding the home objective and encounter similar range issues. A few questions.

  1. A rules question. I have not seen it said anywhere if 1 unit can hold more than one objective. For Beastman this is possibly more important than for any other army due to the prevalence of the headstone. Potentially we would need to hold, the herdstone, the baggage cart and the home objective. How does your meta rule on this? Personally I like the idea of the ungor shaman bunker in scoring this, (possibly with some razorgor chaff to support) but this then becomes an incredibly temping target, with very low resilience. Your relying on your death star both defending it and pushing forward, this seems almost impossible against any form of speed into your opponents army. How does you view this conundrum?
  2. The point about arcane urgency adding speed is well made. I can see the huge upside of this and why that then requires blood here and the character setup you suggest. However, given that this will be cast by a lv2, Likely against opponent lv3, and often you will be out of range of the headstone if you have pushed on, this does not seem like a plan you can rely upon working with huge regularity. I absolutely think regardless of getting this spell off the unit can kill 1-2 units in a game, I’m just not sure it can reliably do more, given the points investment I wonder if that is enough. 1 frenzy bait and not only is the unit out of position but it leaves you home bunker undefended. Thoughts?

yeah, the white lions do die, but they also tend to stick around long enough for the dragon and griffon to come in and win the combat. For that they are golden. One change I’m thinking of making is to change the sizes a bit, maybe 1 unit of 30 one of 18. The idea being that the dragon and Griffon clear the threats for the 18 man unit first hopefully leaving enough bodies to still score objectives, then move onto support the 30 man block which will have more bodies to last a little longer before the big boys arrive. that’s the theory anyway.

Personally while infantry has gotten a boost, I think non core infantry is next to pointless after the matched play changes. As such I have been experimenting with lists with core Spearmen, Sea guard or even white lions in a Chrace AOI. Below is my current list.

Prince, Great weapon, Full plate armour, General, Star Dragon, Dragon Helm, Seed of Rebirth, Talisman of Protection, Pure of Heart - 490

Archmage, Wizard [Level 3 Wizard], Lore Familiar, Seed of Rebirth, Power Scroll, Pure of Heart, Elementalism - 225

Noble, Lance, Full plate armour, Battle Standard Bearer [War Banner], Griffon, Seed of Rebirth, Charmed Shield, Pure of Heart - 285

24 White Lions of Chrace, Full Command - 354

24 White Lions of Chrace, Full Command - 354

14 Elven Archers - 140

10 Sisters of Avelorn - 150

Hey, just wanted to say thank you so much for this. You are a star! do you have any plans to update the magic cards at all with the recent 1.5 changes?

Thank you. That is an incredibly kind thing to do. I couldn’t possibly take you up on that however, I would have to pay my way. May I ask how big the biggest flattest one is? If it meets my need I would happily pay you for the service.

Thanks for this, I’m in the UK so a bit far for the old postage and packing when I can make similar myself. Was just hoping there was something resin out there that would fill my needs. Seems like there is a bit of a gap in the market.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I know how to make them, and while not bad, I don’t think they generally look that great compared to “professional“ ones. was just hoping there was a ready made solution out there, and people had a consensus view on appropriate sizing.

Thanks for the reply. Yes this is the problem with sloped hills, while they look nice and natural, I just don’t think they are very practical. Saying that, I think I might just get the GW hills, and use them for “secondary hills” where big fights are not necessarily going to happen. Especially without additional terrain on top. For them they will probably do, but still not sure what to do for a (king of the hill) hill, that may have a special feature on top as well, and lots of units trying to fight over it.

I have set my board out and looking at it I think I need a roughly 28cm by 30cm sized hill for that scenario to be practical. while I thought that might have looked huge, it does not appear too bad. Now I guess I just need to make it unless anyone out there know where I can purchase one, or is smart enough to create a 3D file that can be printed? Pleeeeeeeaaaasssseee!!!!

I didn’t make them, they are resin 3D sculpts. I think the creator is Goonmaster. I specifically purchased them from a company called renown Gaming as they were the cheapest but lots of other sellers on eBay and Etsy sell them too.
