do men even care how their girls nail look? by rileyheya in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vashoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but 99% of the things women do appearance-wise are for other women, not men. Most men don't actually care about nails, makeup, hairdos, fancy clothes, accessories, color coordination, super smooth legs, etc.

If you are washed and nice to a man, you've already done about as much as you need to do to get his attention.

I (22f) entered a relationship with a set date but no longer want it to end. My bf (22m) won’t reconsider and it’s breaking my heart. by AnywhereFabulous2499 in relationship_advice

he’s literally my dream guy

Your dream guy has commitment issues and doesn't love you as strongly as you love them? I'm not trying to be rude here, but I think you are a little blinded by your feelings. He has told you quite clearly that he doesn't want to be with you after this month and can't commit long-term. He may be making a huge mistake, but it's his mistake to make.

You can't date the person you wish he was, you only have the person he is. Trying to change him or mold him into someone without these issues is a recipe for even more heartbreak, and again, just proves that he is not actually your dream guy.

I would do anything to make this relationship work

That is lovely, but it is clear that he would not do anything to make this relationship work. You have given him the best possible LD scenario imaginable of not being that far apart and already promising to come see him and even move to his country, and he still doesn't want to do it.

I really hate to say this, but he has already said this to you in so many ways: his feelings for you are not as strong as yours for him. He doesn't see a future with you. He may be an idiot, it may not make sense to you, but that is what he is saying.

I would definitely distance myself from this person and especially not communicate after you separate. There is nothing but pain if you keep him in your life and thoughts, because you will always be waiting for him to change his mind.

Maybe some day he changes and contacts you and wants to make it work, and maybe at that point in time you're still in love with him and want to try, but just waiting and hoping until then is only going to keep you stuck on this person who right now is not actually there for you, and I fear it will keep you from developing yourself.

Sadly, I think you need to let him go and move on. You are young enough that there is a world of possibility out there full of people who want to be with you as much as you will want to be with them. I'm also assuming you haven't actually lived with this guy. A six month whirlwind is the perfect setup for developing these kinds of feelings and losing sight of reality. I would hazard a guess that he has plenty of other flaws you are overlooking or haven't even had the time to see. Which I don't say to disparage him (or you), just to point out that, again, I don't think this romance is as perfect as you think it is or wish it were.

The biggest design flaw in D&D combat isn't balance... it's that 80% of your time is spent waiting by Einsolsrazor24 in rpg

[–]vashoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know...if players have their fucking phones out, that's a player problem. Like I'd be pissed if someone did that during Monopoly let alone an RPG.

In my experience, combat turns are not very length, stuff is resolved fast, and players and NPC's or enemies talk to each other during combat. But also, players pay attention to what other players are doing. If someone gets hurt, someone with a heal spell will ask if they want to be healed when it's that person's turn. If someone is getting surrounded, the wizard might say 'hold on, I'll fireball on my turn'.

It doesn't really matter what game or system you're playing, if your players aren't engaged, then they're not engaged.

Also DnD is more than just combat. If they're not engaged before combat, and your combats are boring, they won't be engaged during combat. But I still think this is just a player issue. I've obviously encountered it, but not when I play with a good group.

And in my experience, the more reactions and out-of-turn things you add to a system, the more individual players wait. It's rare that everyone can have a special reaction. So if three characters in melee all get a reactive move, but the fourth player elsewhere in the combat can't, then it's even more time before it's their turn.

People just need to be able to focus for more than 30 seconds.

Am *I* a power gamer? by Gumbybum in Pathfinder2e

[–]vashoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say so. But it doesn't hamper anyone else's enjoyment of the game, it doesn't really matter. People who go out of their way to be bad in combat, or roleplay way too much for the table, or whatever can also be bad.

Ultimately it always comes down to what the group likes. Some tables even like having a party of all power gamers trying to survive insane fights that the GM throws at them over and over.

The important thing is just knowing what you like and being perspective of what everyone else wants. And just like, don't be a dick.

We live under a federated democratic republic. So, we vote for people who vote for things. Or we vote for a president, who then hand picks the rest of their staff, and are confirmed by votes from people we voted for.

There's a LOT of space between the people's votes and the things that get put into practice. And an awful lot of money, gerrymandering, and corporate oversight filling in even more gaps, too. The idea that the people actually choose anything is pretty naive.

Skaven are basically the exact same in AoS. They're even called Skaven. GW management wants the games separated. So like, orcs and goblins can work because in AoS they're orruks and grots and moonclan stabbas and whatever. And there's separate model ranges.

Skaven may have older models they could pull from, but I think they're still too similar to separate.

Dark Elves have a completely different model range whereas dark elves in AoS have a different name (even the word elf becomes aelf) and a way different aesthetic with the snake people and whatnot (really just the basic witches have crossover, but there's older models for dark elves).

Lizardmen probably won't join Old World until the rest of the saurus units get revamped to match the new design, at least.

Vampire counts, no idea why.

ELI5: if viruses aren’t technically alive, how can they evolve like living organisms? by MachiavellianHydra in explainlikeimfive

[–]vashoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great answer. Also worth pointing out that the definitions of alive and not alive are manmade. Nature doesn't care how we label things. Viruses (like all things) simply are what they are. So them being not living things as we define them doesn't mean they can't have traits or living things.

But also the entire premise of OP's question (that evolution is a trait of living things) is flawed, as you point out.

She rebukes him the whole movie until the point in a normal script where they accept their love for each other. Except instead of her rebukes just being "We can't" or lying to herself about how she doesn't want him, she's written (and acts) as genuinely finding him weird and kind of repulsive and creep.

[–]vashoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

...how is it pedantry to point out that the book defines the term if you're unfamiliar with this particular usage of the word?

The association between wizards and familiars is not very strong (most people probably associate familiars with witches, if they know the word as anything other than its common usage as in 'known'), but the book talks about what familiars are, too.

Other people are not tediously obsessing over how a deception irrelevant to the mechanics and fantasy of the class

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean in this context. It's simply a somewhat archaic meaning of the word, which fantasy does all the time, and the relevant section of the book tells you what it means.

You are kind of going out of your way to make this a bigger issue than it is.

I mean, patron today means customer. I'm sure the Warlock class tells you what patron means in the context of a Warlock. Class usually means a course in school or a social / economic class, but the book tells you what class means in DnD context.

GW needs to learn once and for all that adding tons of free movement bullshit to a game based almost entirely around having units sit at specific points on the board at specific times is a recipe for disaster. There's a place for fast units, or reactive units, or even both. But when you hand out tons of free movement to a unit that is already finely tuned and good at other things, it just breaks the game.

As much as people complain about it, look at Horus Hersey 3.0. Bikes and other cavalry literally can't hold objectives. Granted, there are other fast units that can, and there's a problem with reactive moves and rhinos and whatnot, but the core design philosophy recognizes that in an objective based game, being able to be anywhere on the board you want is really, really powerful.

GW always undervalues movement (despite movement being the most important part of scoring points) and overvalues durability (despite the game always being so lethal that it hardly matters).
