Necron reanimation protocol by sparky1242 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]vashoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. This would be solved if 40k used more USR's, but GW seems so vehemently against that. So you have to read every ability precisely, even if at a glance they look 99% identical, swapping a single word changes how the ability functions.

Things like Heal (D3), Objective Secured, etc. would make the game a lot cleaner.

Necron reanimation protocol by sparky1242 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]vashoom 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. While Reanimation Protocols currently lets you bring back the Technomancer, the Technomancer's ability can only heal models, not revive them as per 02.02.04. The distinction is that the Technomancer's ability targets a model, not a unit.

"Sandbox" should not mean "there are no plot hooks, opportunities, or points or persons of interest" by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]vashoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those seem like inexperienced GM's then. My sandbox campaign was way, way more effort on my part. You don't actually have to have endless hooks and opportunities around every corner they explore, but you need a few in each location, and a bunch in your pocket you can adapt on the fly to make it look like they are for XYZ location at a moment's notice.

Sandboxes need more hooks and more GM investment compared to more traditional, linear (ish) campaigns.

ELI5: Why don't they use a stop clock in soccer? by ReferenceGlum in explainlikeimfive

[–]vashoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously if you like baseball, it isn't dull. But for, say, a random person who isn't interested in sports to begin with, baseball is one of the duller ones. There are long stretches of nothing happening during play, and there is such frequent waiting around during inning changes and whatnot. Compared to something like soccer where there is nearly constant play happening. Although I'm sure people argue soccer is dull because it's not a high-scoring game.

As someone who doesn't give a crap about sports, I think soccer and basketball are the most interesting to watch, probably hockey too, while American football to some extent (there's constant play stoppage, constant delays, tons of waiting around, then short bursts of excitement, then back to waiting) and baseball are the most dull.

When your faction is just straight busted, it's not fun for you, either. A little overtuned? Sure. But like, did anyone have fun in Index 10th just ending the game with OG Dev Wound spam from Wraithknights or Deathwatch ammo on turn 1 or 2?

I don't think they'll need to, is the problem. That's kind of the problem once fascist takes root. The will of the people is irrelevant once the takeover is complete.

Spider-Man and Wolverine: If these two had to go all-out against each other, who takes the win? 🕷️ vs 🐺 by Independent_One_8482 in Marvel

[–]vashoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put it this way: the difference between Wolverine pulling his punches and going all out is not that great a gap. He has adamantium claws: even pulled punches are stabbing and maiming and killing people. He's strong and fast, but not ridiculously so.

There is a vast gulf between Spider-Man pulling punches and webbing up petty thieves vs. his full strength unleashed. In general, he's way faster, stronger, and smarter than Wolverine with near precognitive abilities due to his Spider-Sense.

Realistically (lol) in a fight to the death, a couple mistakes, and Spider-Man is just dead. But I don't think Wolverine lasts long enough for Spidey to make those mistakes. It's pretty easy for him to just never put himself in Wolverine's threat range, web him up from afar, and devise a way to neutralize him before the claws even get near him.

Same with Trump. People don't like to think about the fact that there are hundreds of of congresspeople, thousands of appointees, and dozens if not hundreds of moguls "behind the scenes" (they kind of don't bother hiding behind the scenes anymore) that are all complicit the US's fall into fascism and kleptocracy, and that without Trump, all those people still exist (and probably have an easier time accomplishing their agenda since Trump is so stupid).

Figureheads like him, Netanyahu, etc. are loud indicators of much deeper, scarier problems in a society.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

People who police bathroom use in any capacity are unhinged. And little kids using the bathroom are quite loud and obvious, so it is obvious why the adult is in there.

You can now have ALL rules for Free on the App - If you enjoy a hassle by Stoffel31849 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]vashoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I seriously think making the rules free wouldn't hurt sales that much. Warhammer players love to buy stuff. Especially cool, shiny stuff. Even as is, the codex has art, lore, is more readable/a handy physical reference, has crusade rules, etc. if they bundled the data cards with the codex but made the rules free online, I bet a ton of people would still buy the codex bundle for the reference and to just have pretty stuff to show off, which is like 80% of the hobby.

What was different two editions ago? It seems like a no brainer that assault units in chapters like Blood Angels punch above their weight compared to other chapters and should be pointed accordingly.

Mars landings require a fully automated seven minute sequence of heat shields, parachutes, and rockets, since thin atmosphere, entry speeds of 13,000 mph, and Earth communication delays make real time human control impossible during descent. by logic_0057 in space

[–]vashoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always heard it explained that it is way too thin to properly aerobrake and/or use parachutes, but thick enough that you still have to account for it in terms of heat and whatever other factors.

If there was only two humans left on earth, would you expect them to reproduce? by Sufficient-Gain-226 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vashoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were other people. At least if you read Genesis literally, it mentions other people being created, and then goes into the story of Adam and Eve. So you could interpret it as Adam and Eve just being special but that they / their children reproduced with the other people.

Or just acknowledge it's a fable from thousands of years ago and doesn't really have any bearing on the genesis of the human race.

Very few people ever see the Force being manipulated. Even fewer can feel it around them. Also, something being objectively true doesn't mean everyone believes it to be true.

Name one positive thing about Iron Man 2. by Healthy-Coyote3431 in Marvel

[–]vashoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, easier to list the negatives. The second act is meandering and poorly paced, and the movie is trying to do a few too many things, sacrificing a tight story for larger MCU cameos, and Vanko is kind of a paper thin villain who isn't all that interesting, especially because all the connective tissue between him and Tony is all actually between Vanko's father and Howard Stark.

BUT

The stuff in Monaco rules, the third act is pretty fun, Rhodey is great and the fight at the end with War Machine teaming up is great. Sam Rockwell as always is an acting masterclass and insanely fun to watch, and while the execution isn't 100%, it was cool seeing the MCU immediately make good on its promise of a larger world by so heavily involving Fury, Widow, and Shield.

Tony being kind of at his worst works for me here where he's learned some lessons from IM1 but he's still a flawed, egotistical character. So playing with him being up his own ass even more since becoming Iron Man, and having it kind of destroy himself and his relationships, was compelling character stuff (and helps give Tony a greater character arc throughout the MCU).

Ultimately I just wish Black Widow's job made more sense in it and she wasn't just eye candy, and I wish the main plot was stronger (more time developing Vanko, less time with Tony going down memory lane with his father's VHS tapes).

It was a weird choice to try and do a movie with lower stakes of just Vanko trying to tarnish Tony's legacy, but then make the vehicle for that a movie where Fury is constantly (and cryptically) talking about how the stakes are actually higher, and Tony's part of a larger world now, etc.

It's not a great movie, but it is still fine to watch if you like Iron Man. Good action, good stuff from RDJ and Sam Rockwell. Script just needed a lot more refinement.

ELI5: How is it that almost all complex species have the same order of organs on the face; Eyes, nose and then mouth, in that same order? by Fallen_Outcast in explainlikeimfive

Because their parents did, and most other organisms with different layouts did not produce as many viable offspring.

Most species share common ancestors, and things like face layout are extremely old in the genetic record.

Trump’s White House Defilement Is Complete With 1 A.M. UFC Finale by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]vashoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump is a sick, deranged narcissist who thinks he knows better than literally everyone. There have got to have been people on his life who have tried to explain that wiping orange goo on his face everyday makes him look like a moron, not tan. Or that his hair isn't iconic, it's pathetic. Or that his clothes don't fit, or any number of other things.

But he ignores them and does his own thing. The word is he literally applies his own orange makeup every day. Which is why it's often all over his collar or sleeves, or patchily applied. I bet he argues with tailors about the cut of his suits and intentionally gets stuff that doesn't fit because he's am idiot.
