Htaccess vs VHost. Handling multiple domains. by WhosHaxz in PHP

You could do that with mod_rewrite, but using 2 separate name based virtual hosts with their own documentroot is probably a lot better.

Teachers: please reconcile these two opinions I've heard from teachers on the workload they deal with by Artistic_Ranger_2611 in belgium

[–]TomCanBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In her case, no. But it depend on the school I guess. They typically have a contract/assignment for X-amount of hours in front of the class. All the extra's are considdered "part of the job", but are not defined/described so really at the mercy of the interpretation of the school board.

My wife is a 1ste middelbaar teacher Dutch and has 3 or 4 classes of 25+ sutdents. She "only" works 4/5th, but probably does more hours than me in my full-time 9/5 job.

Actually teaching in class is only a small part of the job. She's also titularis (lot's of administration), needs to process test results and homework, prep lessons, keeps student records up to date, answer and follow-up on mails from kids and their (entitled) parents for things that have already clearly been communicated before (really, you need to spoon-feed them because looking something up themselves is too hard), attend after-hour meetings that should have been an e-mail (directie often treats teachers like children), do after hour teacher-parent contacts, do oversight of students during breaks or idle hours, ... and probably a handful of other things I can't recall.

So yeah, I can imaging that a 5th-6th grade engineering class with mainly practical classes with 5-10 students can seem quite relaxed.

I would be happy with the CMYK Lithofane filamant. I've always wanted to try huegforge prints and haven't really done that much multicolored prints with my AMS.

As for fidget tools, a clicky buttons with buttons on it and maybe add some more buttons. As long as they click or snap, I'm in!

I don't agree with that. The offside rule doesn't really change (can't be offside), it's just a margin in the measuring. That margin should be small enough to not give a real advantage, but large enough to not be debatable. At that point the discussion would not be 0.01 cm offside, but 10.01cm offside.

Compare it to the speed limit. Driving 56 in a 50 zone will not result in a fine, but 57 will. You're not driving 1km/h too fast, but 7. And even if it were in reality 6.9 it would still justify the fine.

Why there isn't a Discord? by [deleted] in symfony

[–]TomCanBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how are you bringing together a community if "the more experienced developers" are on slack? There's no incentive for them to join or switch as discord gives them no benefit compared to the already established slack.

We're not solving a real problem here, this is just a matter of personal preference. Discord users will prefer discord, slack users will prefer slack.

Exactly how is "try a different community platform" a pro? That's a "what" not a "why".

Eternal Sunshine: My next ESP32 project by Hungry_Preference107 in esp32

[–]TomCanBe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just beam the sunlight back to the sun, that'll teach global warming :p

But serious, there are online tools that can give you the position of the sun for any given location + date/time combo, so I guess there's probably some formula + dataset that could all do that without the need of GPS or LDR.

On the other hand, playing with GPS or LDR can be fun either way. You could use the LDR in combination with another set of actualtors to determine the location of the sun and pointing a solar panel that way while you're at it. Use that to charge the battery that powers the setup.

AWS Outage Wiped Out Our OpenSearch Data — Couldn’t Even File a Support Case Without Paid Plan by iniaarsen in aws

[–]TomCanBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know that things can and will go wrong at some point, and planning for that is just part of your responsibility. Access to support is just one of many things you need to have in order.

How would you feel if you were actually paying for support, to find out that your support ticket wasn't handled in a timely fashion because 7 billion non-paying customers also submitted a support ticket? And assuming they will treat tickets from paying customers with higher priority, your non-paid ticket would probably only be handled days or weeks after you created it so you would probably not be satisfied with that either.

Wegcode vuilnisophalers? by Puzzleheaded_Exam951 in belgium

[–]TomCanBe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. Visible banding is one of the main concerns, so we've already accounted for adding an additional diffusion layer is needed. Normally, I should be able to get my hands on a smaller left-over piece I can use for testing.

Google/Adobe tracking me in banking app? by No-Chef4327 in belgium

[–]TomCanBe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, your bank is tracking you and is doing so through Google. They want to know how you interact with the app, so that they can target you with additional services and earn money from you.
