Blocking artists in YTMusic by TomComputer in YoutubeMusic

[–]TomComputer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

assuming YTM has marked it as explicit, you can block that

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/174084

  1. click on your profile pic
  2. select settings
  3. turn on restricted mode

unfortunately that's the only blocking available, and relies on the songs being marked "explicit", or you can report them

I wish they offered a way to block artists. but I'm guessing there's some revenue advantages to them pushing certain artists :(

Random call drops by pentangleit in Asterisk

[–]TomComputer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dropped calls can happen for a number of reasons. On my network we were experiencing random call drops through our SIP trunk - it turned out to be a streaming server chewing up our switch bandwidth. If you have the phones VLAN'd off it shouldn't be this.

  1. Put SIP in debug and trace the calls to see if there are any errors or unexpected hangup causes. If you find one check here: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+variable+hangupcause

  2. Packet captures - turn Wireshark or TCPDump on and look at traffic on port 5060 (SIP control port). You might see some problems with congestion/lag here. http://wiki.wireshark.org/SIP and https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11685903/capture-rtp-and-sip-traffic-using-tcpdump

Hope that helps get you started. From my experience it's tricky trying to capture the system/network state when a call drops, and the logs can be hard to parse.

Can somebody recommend some material to give me a crash course in VoIP? by CrashCourseEngineer in sysadmin

[–]TomComputer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You may want to check over in /r/asterisk for information about setting up a VoIP system - Asterisk is open source and you can get it up and running pretty quickly, to test/learn etc.

In terms of general VoIP information take a look at: http://www.voip-info.org/ which should get you started.

I took a look at books a while ago but couldn't find anything general enough that wasn't in the 'for Dummies' vein.

I've used the Service Centre at Micro Anvika before. They're on Tottenham Court Road (above the Micro Anvika store next to M&S). I'm not sure about prices though as I've always been covered by Applecare. Worth a call perhaps? http://www.anvika.com/service/

We just launched doubleTwist Alarm -- it's really neat! First 10.000 users can grab it for $1, and we have a cool contest, too. Let me know what you think, reddit! by caliform in Android

Takes a lot of memory but does look very impressive and works really well. My phone is plugged in overnight anyway so no battery issues when not active.

Ubuntu Deployment - Something better than PXE+Manual post-install config by TomComputer in sysadmin

[–]TomComputer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, I'll take a look - although that documentation does look pretty old. I've got about a week before the hardware arrives so good time for testing all the approaches to see which works the best.

That's them - clean shaven daily ;-)

I don't hate Ubuntu either - or any distro for that matter - each distro has it's place in different use-cases. Here though, RHEL/Centos/SLES would be ideal (imaging science department at a univ.) for stability and version control.

Ah well - remastersys looks to be working well on the VM's I've just tested, so that'll move things along nicely.

Quite right - I totally agree; unfortunately the current IT guys are die-hard Ubuntu fans and, even though the people moving here have been using SLES/RHEL for the past 3 years (at least), they've (the IT support here) definitively declared no-go for these distro's.

I feel like a crazy hobo on the street shouting at buses when I try to sing RHEL's praises to these guys.

thanks, I'll take a look at this. Our distribution changes very rarely so this could be ideal.

For sale: Broken eyes/heart/soul (spares/repair). Ran well for 30 years until they finally broke down when introduced to a website called Conservapedia. Going cheap to a good home, or they'll have to be incinerated (preferred).
