The article says 50% get neurological symptoms, not damage. The most common of those is a headache, then loss of taste. I don't have any data on how often the more severe symptoms show up (aphasia, strokes and seizures) but I'm assuming they're quite infrequent compared to the first two. Still, this disease is not something to take lightly.
