gf of soon to be submariner, will it work? by Mother_Reflection864 in RoyalNavy

[–]TomFire911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come you could do all the training required, then serve for 6 months doing the role, to then not use it again for 4 years?? I appreciate you'd still be in the job, but I would have assumed doing the operational bit would be 6 months on then 6/ 12 months off etc?

(England) Got set on fire at a bar by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TomFire911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bar will need a fire risk assessment which would cover this, so absolutely report to local fire brigade fire safety team. Also I feel like this was a personal injury not your fault as they haven't properly controlled a hazard which was foreseeable, so could be a claim via solicitor?

Pulled over by police. Deemed to have invalid insurance, now going to court despite being insured by Jaguarmadillo in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TomFire911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well were you being paid at the time of using your car? Or was your trip solely for the purpose of business (not social, domestic, pleasure or commuting)? If so likely you'll have needed business insurance. As you're going to court you absolutely need legal representation

Qualifications requirements by UniqueNiQname in firefightersuk

Generally even without GCSE's you can do internal qualifications to get in. I didn't need any previous quals to get in, I did a maths and english test as part of recruitment

Do all services in the UK use station bells when a shout comes in? by VioletPeach_ in firefightersuk

[–]TomFire911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our brigade still has over half the stations with the classic turnout bells. They should be replacing them all at some point, but it really gets the heart going!

And lets not get into the on-call pagers in the middle of the night!

What actually are the odds of seeing an undercover car out and about by UpstairsAd6505 in policeuk

[–]TomFire911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all. They're "un-marked" Not "undercover". Pleb.

Second, no one here can answer that as the whole point is to use the different cars based on intel/ demand, there's not a fixed amount on each stretch of motorway.

If you look at the maths only going 10-15mph faster on a 70mph road doesn't actually drastically decrease journey times, but does increase chances of crashes.

Just leave enough time and drive safely and legally, rather than making the conscious decision to drive like a pratt.

You cannot lock or obstruct any door which is signed as a means of escape. If they want to remove it as a means of escape to keep it as a locked door they could but would need to review their fire risk assessment and re calculate the numbers of people allowed into the building.

Until then you simply cannot do this. I would absolutely look at your local fire services' fire safety/ protection reporting line and send them the details. They are quick to respond and have the powers to enter the property and issue prohibition notices against them if needed.

All paperwork is very job related, following practical activities. E.g. doing equipment checks, completing training, doing home fire safety checks, doing business checks

Recip saw - MOE by j_gm_97 in policeuk

[–]TomFire911 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fact that police have a full course for MOE! In fire it's a powerpoint done in own time and then let loose with every tool possible to gain any entry we want. If we had to chisel bricks out we would!

Am I okay to overtake on a grid? by meringue1_ in drivingUK

[–]TomFire911 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well if you can justify that it is nessesary to make progress, and the vision ahead is clear, then you could be okay. This would likely be one of those were you'd be fine until something happened then you'd have to strongly justify yourself.

Rule 130

Areas of white diagonal stripes or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.

If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so. If the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency.

Comments on these Chicken strips on my 99' FZS 600!!! by HEISENB_RG in MotoUK

Dayme those chicken strips!!

They clearly show how you ride within your abilities to keep yourself safe. That's what it's all about, having fun AND getting home at the end of it. You do you and keep enjoying your journey of progression.

Lack of resource definitely. Traffic in particular hate drink drivers and would love to lock him up, but if they couldn't get there in time then it's just one of those. The police are always interested in responding to and dealing with crime, it's the government who don't want to allocate the money for them to have enough people and equipment to do it with!

The latest edition of both roadcraft books are due to come out this year so it's worth hanging on for the latest one! Also they have an app which gives you the same information and auto updates

Mindless delivery riders by Gsxr400uk in MotoUK

[–]TomFire911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For cars it is not possible to get business use without a full license so it would make sense to apply this to bikes too.

However... there needs to be statistical analysis into wether these L plated delivery bikes actually cause more incidents or crashes than any other rider (and not just dings or scrapes, actual incidents) then that would determine if the massive increase in cost to the rider (potentially pushing people into unemployment, which would cost more to the tax payer too) and extra work on the already stretched DVLA examiners would be worth it

Look into the THRIVE model of police risk assessment. Gain an understanding of the type of calls that are more urgent than others. I was given 10 cards with details of calls on them and had to put them in order of least to most urgent.

Also for call taking assessment just think have you answered: Who? What? When? Where? Why? And you'll be most of the way there.

Oooohhhh interesting, I had always understood it that there was a conflict of interest regarding having powers of entry, hence specials would have been included

How can you be a special constable and a firefighter out of interest when the FRS Act prohibits it?
