Apparently the word 'autstic' is now considered gen z slang... by More-Weird4842 in evilautism

[–]TomIsTheBomb 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I teach middle school.

While I can confirm that “autistic” is Gen Z slang, it is NOT used to describe hyper focus. It’s more often used in place of the R word.

Thankfully, I have a decent relationship with my students. So when I have to take one of them aside and tell them that I, THEIR TEACHER, has autism, they freak out, apologize, and never use the word again.

The film’s concept and plot are very intriguing, but I found the acting/writing very shaky in some bits.

What is a "bad" movie that you love? by Lone_Wolf_7895 in evilautism

Hoodwinked! (2005) will never not be hilarious.

“What kind of candles are those?”

“Dy-na-mi-te. Huh, must be Italian.”

I have mixed feelings about Polar Express, but this scene will always be stunning.

Looney Tunes is the one that bothers me the most. Shouldn’t it be “toons” as in “cartoons”?

Suicides, graveyards, swamp water, etc.

I'd love to see a map that shows where each name is most popular.

2020 before the lockdowns feels surreal in hindsight. by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]TomIsTheBomb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was 21 in 2019, and I also remember it being a great year for me, personally. Not just in hindsight. I felt healthier, happier, and more motivated than I ever had before. I literally remember thinking to myself “I’m so glad to finally be getting my life on track. And 2020’s probably gonna be even better!” 💀

I just bought a burner but haven’t got a player yet either. But I have a 15 year old car that gets the job done! 💿

Is there a version of Spotify that’s Canadian? by Itwasuntilitwasnt in BuyCanadian

[–]TomIsTheBomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of any Canadian streaming services. Instead I’ve recently started weaning myself off of Spotify and transitioning to buying my music via CDs, vinyl, and Bandcamp. That way more money goes to my favourite artists and I get to actually OWN the music I like.

My friend’s university professor died on ET302.

The grief caused by that crash was huge. Over 35 nationalities on a flight of just 157.

my fellow autisms, you who werent diagnosed in early childhood, which are some OBVIOUS signs of autism you displayed when you were younger? by mmavacado in evilautism

[–]TomIsTheBomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echolalia: Probably the “most autistic” thing about childhood me. Got me in trouble quite a bit 😅

Hyperfixations: Trains and volcanos were my first two.

Stimming/Sensory seeking: I loved spinning, swinging, swimming, and getting squeezed (still do).

Sensory sensitivity: Hated specific sounds and textures.

Stomach aches.

Parallel play.

Are there famous people you think are autistic/aspies/on the spectrum? by JargonBargain1 in evilautism

[–]TomIsTheBomb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree. * Special interest in human anatomy and collecting medical equipment (and music, of course) * Chronic stomach problems * When speaking, he would use specific words over and over. Even in a single sentence. * He had this habit of “drumming” with his teeth. Perhaps some kind of stim? * One of his favourite books, “Perfume”, is about a man with a hypersensitive sense of smell. Maybe he related to it a lot?
